Word of the day: DELAYED

We spent all of today travelling. Literally. Our flight from Iceland to Paris was delayed for more than 4 hours due to bad weather (shocking, I know!). We spent our time wandering around the outskirts of the airport trying to find an open gas station to refill our rental car, wandering the insanely chi-chi boutiques and duty-free shops in Keflavik Airport and having breakfast. When we arrived in Paris, we made the mistake of taking public transit downtown to our hotel.. What should have been ...

Paris at warp speed

(NOTE: I've had WAY less internet access than I thought I would.. haven't been able to transcribe my written journals and post them, but I thought I'd just post the pictures to satisfy you guys for the moment. Keep sending me emails though! I'll send another email when I finally do post the actual writing. Love to all. -Chels) Today in Brief: We ran around seeing Paris's famous landmarks today: Notre Dame Cathedral, went for a cruise on the Seine River & browsed the booksellers along it, ...

A far more "French" day

Keep sending me emails though! I'll send another email when I finally do post the actual writing. Love to all. -Chels) (title reference: A far more "French" day.. ie, one that's more relaxed, and includes brunch, art, wine and things that don't work!) Today in brief: got up late, had a ...

Paris, or Boots Are Not Made for Walking

... but it was still really cool to listen to French bands.

The next morning for breakfast I had a croissant and espresso and I must say it was the best croissant I've ever had. Afterwards we went to the Louvre and I think that was my favorite place in all of Paris. We spent about three hours there, but I wish I had been there even longer. Because we were students studying in Europe we were actually able to get in for free, which was really cool. We just had to ...

A weekend being French

... grew denser. Joss saw a huge group of people crowded around a tiny painting and I moved closer. Joss had been to the Louvre before and wasn’t too impressed with the Mona Lisa and didn’t think it was worth fighting through the crowd to reach it, so she just hung out on the side.
It gets a bad wrap, many times have I heard people say something about the Mona Lisa being just another painting and that the hordes of people who crowd around it make ...

So the French do like fries...

... in person, as it towers above the core of the city. And at night, it "lights up" on the hour, with lights flashing intermittently shining bright enough for the whole city to see. It was perfect timing and an awesome thing to witness. Afterward, we decided to head back to the hostel and get some rest for the following morning. The next morning, we met up at the Louvre to find out some information about visits. Turns out that the Louvre was free after 6 ...

The Louvre (Paris)

... a river, I was amazed by what we saw. For someone who doesn't care for museums all that much, I was really impressed. But what made today really special was the fact that it meant so much to Steve. I'm sure if we ever go back to Paris we will visit the Louvre again considering the fact that we only saw a mere fraction of the 6,000 paintings on display. And if there is a next time...I'll make sure that I'm a little more discreet with my "close-up" pictures of the sculptures there!

... rectangle of grass in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower eating the baguettes supplied to us. (It felt very fitting and very French eating baguettes there, by the way) After lunch we spent the remainder of the afternoon wandering along the Seine seeing the various sights along the way. On one side, walking away from the Eiffel Tower, we passed the Mussee d'Orsay and a bunch of markets selling everything from paintings to bags to postcards ...

Classy Paris

... year! The Arc de Triomphe commemorates all the French troops who have died in the most famous French battles around the world and is quite a sombre place - well worth a visit. You can also climb to the top, for a small fee, and have a good view of Paris. My next place to visit was the Eiffel Tower which I felt was nothing special. There were long queues so I didn't bother waiting in the cold night, each to ...

... find out his name). 5pm I was dirty and eventually made my excuses and headed to the shower. I was also starving and absolutely craving a big delicious meal. After talking to the guy who was a vegan I was absolutely craving meat. LOL! So I headed to the Hard Rock Cafe and I didn't care how much it cost me. I realised I hadn't eated meat (aside from a McD burger) in 2 weeks, I had been living on pasta and soup. 10pm Back at the ...
