... the two. The Gate is dedicated to the Goddess Ishtar, Babylonian goddess of fertility, love, war, and sex (busy lady!). The pictures eally don't do it justice. Part of the Gate was being worked on ... restoraton in progress so not all of it was visible.

Unfortunately, the Pergamon Altar exhibit was not open ... the exhibit hall is under renovation and is not scheduled to reopen until 2019 ... would definitely ...

... parted ways with Sophie, who wasn't feeling well and headed back to the hostel. The three of us continued on to find the famous pool bar we heard about, and after an hour of trains and walking, we found it! We changed into bathing suits, took off our shoes, and got some drinks. ... very tasty but intense! We also got an icecream. I asked for a taste but got a very blunt no back. We drove to Berlin and had a driving tour. There were some protests going on so we had to go a different way. After the driving tour we got ready for dinner at our hotel in East Berlin and the bus took us into the Hofbräuhaus for an Oktoberfest style dinner. ... and one of the really interesting things just as you walk in the door is a to scale model of how this part of Berlin looked when it was under Hitler’s control. The imposing, almost Roman style of the architecture that Hitler put in place is still visible next door but it is hard to imagine what it would have looked like with those massive buildings carrying on in every direction for blocks and blocks.

... Berlin (German Symphony Orchestra). Simon was able to get some cheap tickets from a friend. A most enjoyable evening with a very unusual modern piece by a local composer, two Piano Concertos with orchestra by Robert Schumann then a Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Symphony. Enjoyed this as I haven't been to an orchestral concert many years. This will be the last travel blog. I have had a very enjoyable holiday.
