Today, I ended my holiday break in a very chilly San Antonio. Sorry for the obnoxious title but basketball season is in full throttle and the spurs are my team.(!!!!) Not really, but everyone loves to say that here and rep the spurs with flags and stickers on their cars. Gotta admire that pride, huh? Anyways back to the important stuff, I am feeling very excited but anxious about the next five months. I can't believe the first leg of my journey is already here and about to ...

... mmm enchiladas. Then Evan and I went for a walk downtown and poked around the Alamo a few shops and along the river walk. Then we headed to the Shambhala Meditation Centre to practice together. Morgan met up with us at the centre and we went out for dinner. I tried fish and shrimp tacos quite good! Then a jazz band started playing so overall good food, good music and good conversation! I’m glad I made time to connect with friends ...

It was a great lively local spot where we enjoyed frozen strawberry margaritas and shared a tasting plate of typical Texan food - tequitas (shredded beef rolled in crispy tortillas), loaded potato skins and cheese sticks (crumbed, deep-fried mozzarella cheese). They were so incredibly cholesterol laden, we resolved never to eat fried food again, and tried to make amends with a healthy main of asparagus with grilled chicken or fish. We rolled out of that ...

Today was a good day! As it was our free day I had a little lie in before getting up and readying myself for the day. The group from last night gathered and caught the 10.24 bus back into San Antonio to have a little mooch around the town. Last night we had booked at table for lunch at... Wait for it.... A steak house! We met at 12 at the steak house and were amazed by the menu! In the end we all split ...

... invited to join the US. They accepted. This annoyed mexico and there began a war between the us and mexico which the us won. Mexico agreed to transfer the other aformentioned states to the us and this led to the present day map of us. Thus the importance of the alamo in us history. So, went and checked out the surviving buildings and then went for a walk around town. Pretty grim really, except for "the riverwalk" which is the city's other claim to ...
