This is where we stayed the first night. We ended up having to go to the weigh scales on our way out, and to gas-up. We didn't leave Virginia until about noon. :\ We went through the mountains of Maryland and West Virginia, then entered Pennsylvania.
Our route was :
From Winchester, VA we went to the Flying J weigh scales. From there we went up route 522 and through Morgan County, WV. Once in Hancock, MD, we trekked west ...
... so I could call my beautiful Mama (and avoid any heart attacks or meltdowns ) We made it to the little town of Cadiz, Ohio around 7:00pm and drove down a very long and unpromising dirt road until we found Harrison State Forest which has 7 free campsites! So we spent night 7 - much more content - in the middle of the woods in Ohio ...
... to the Bass Pro shop and worth a couple of hours of looking at all the stuffed animals on display, guns (soooo many!!!) etc etc! We stay overnight in a close by hotel and leave the last 3 or so hours drive to the Trezona's for Monday. We will be staying with them for 2 nights before driving up to Chicago by Wednesday evening. Loving cruisin' America and very thankful for safety, good health, pleasantly mild weather and pretty nice company!!! ...
Another early morning flight to head out to Phoenix and then embark on a five hour drive west towards Borrego Springs. This is another desert trip for the Flats since they loved Big Bend so much. Today was a BIG travel day. We traveled nearly 600 miles and crossed 3 mid-west states (Illinois, Indiana and Ohio)! We added our 21st state to our list - West Virginia as we passed through that state very briefly on our way. The trip really was smooth thanks to very good weather and light traffic. The only place we had any trouble was passing through Columbus Ohio where we hit rush hour. Even with that it wasn't too bad. ...
