        ... the 25th year of the German reunification (1989). They were expecting thousands of people in Frankfurt and we actually ( on Saturday night) watched the major event on the TV. Dinner was at a very small local eatery where we had pork and potatoes ( of course) and wine. We sat at long wooden table with benches..family style. A neighborhood German place full of locals and fun to experience. We returned "home" and settled down for the night.

The first was a fellow from Germany~ my same age, also walking without his spouse, but for him it was just a walk~ he didn't believe in a "God"~ lived paycheck to paycheck~ believed he earned it and would spend it all and didn't worry about a little nest for replacing a car or saving for retirement.         ... hot and humid for the competitors. The best way to watch the action from the 18th green is from the air conditioned hospitality tents. The top sponsors this year who had those available were the News-Sentinel, Copper Cellar, and Fleming's Steakhouse, where yours truly hung out with my old childhood friends Ken Canada and Chuck Cavalaris on Championship Sunday. Their food was stupendous, including shrimp, lobster, crab claws, and prime rib.

        ... during this trip and it too was very moving... especially the end of mass (more about that during the trip) and again I thought~ I AM coming back here and I AM hiking "the Way". I think Monsignor Al tired of all my questions~ lol~ but I'm thankful to He and Sister for planting the seed.

        Now a few years have gone by.........the dream is still in my head...my friend Linda said she would like to go also... things were happening ...

        ... and had scrapbooking in common. There was a core group who used
        to chat a little everyday and we have made life long friends through
        the group. Now, it is even easier to connect with Facebook. People
        often laugh when I say I'm friends with people I've met online and
        never actually met in person. It's not so safe to meet people online
        these days but we've met up with plenty this trip who we've met back
        15 years ago when forums and chat rooms ...
