... Qantas staff send us in our way to the Concourse hotel for the night and fly out in morning to Cabo. So we spent the day in LA and caught the bus to Santa Monica. Half hour ride for $1 each. Awesome. Such a chilled, cool place. Went and walked out on the pier, saw some seagulls on roids (seriously we like Eagles) had some Mexican for lunch and made our way back to base camp for the night. Freshen up with a nice hot shower and off to bed, and get ready for day 2 to commence at 0500 ...

... managed to walk around with the GoPro facing himself without realising rather than what he was trying to film for some time today... So that will be interesting when we watch it back! Had dinner at Bubba Gumps Shrimp on the pier and watched the sunset to finish the day. Both agreed the fish, service etc was really great. We have also dispelled a few myths so far: - the food is awesome - the coffee is awesome - and there are tea shops ...

Anyway, somehow I managed to get outside to the shuttle bus area. Waited a while, looked around, and saw a familiar looking head disappearing into the crowd. Luckily my lungs still worked, so I bellowed out across the lanes of taxis and summoned my friend Seb who was a little late in ...

... originally from San Fran whizzed me around in his car, but then also gave me a "$25 off your next car ride" promo code with Lyft, another type of app that essentially works exactly the same as Uber. That $25 bucks will be used towards my trip to LAX airport tomorrow, where approximately $5 will come out of my pocket, as the estimate cost to get to the airport from here is around $30-40, unlike the overpriced regular taxi fare which cost me ...

Santa Monica, CA, 4 - 6 April, by Ben

The US was not originally on our itinerary but, because we managed to get a cheap flight from Japan and needed LAX to connect to South America, a sojourn was a no-brainer.

After a gruelling ten-hour flight and two bus journeys, we arrived in Santa Monica. It was the perfect place to unwind, recover from jet lag and get ready for our road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway.
