Arrived late in the afternoon into Bangor, out to phone shops to sort out US mobile and wifi for the boat. Had dinner by the river at Sea Dog a brewery restaurant and then a walk along the river.
We started the Maine portion of our trip just over the border in the southern coastal region called "the beaches" region. It extends northward along the coast until the Portland/Casco Bay region. Among its claim to fame is Kennebunkport. Neither of us felt an overwhelming need to go there, especially since I'd seen it once before in 2008.
... With the new 'nearest gas station' now in the town of Sussex, with the needle well below E and without any other options, we continued on. On the way we hit some traffic and got stopped by construction, but somehow managed to roll into a gas station without stalling. In the end I put in 59.995 liters into my 60 liter tank. If you've never driven the roads in this part of the country you have no idea what a rough road is. If you are familiar with the roads here, you know what I'm talking about. ... Wild or not, it's worth a trip back for a second helping! We head to Quebec and Montreal Sunday and will be there through Tuesday.
