... to the trip!  There aren't any trains or airports into the country either.  The entire country is so mountainous that straight roads aren't possible.  Extremely long tunnels have been dug in some areas, but they don't get too far through the mountain.  Before long we were again winding through the narrow mountain roads. To make matters worse, the roads were also being used by the locals for herding their livestock!  We were in a traffic jam for about an ...

... around Andorra La Vella.

The place is in a spectacular setting, deep in a valley surrounded by very high and steep cliffs.

The city isn't at all like I expected it to be. I expected an 'olde worlde' type city with lots of wooden buildings, quaint tourist shops and plenty of restaurants, with cobbled streets. The city isn't like that at all. It is a modern city ...

Our lovely GPS will not recognise Barcelona Airport, so we settle for entering Barcelona as our destination. The roads out of Andorra are very good, but it takes almost 90 minutes to completely clear the Pyrennes. With some impressive tunnels it is ...

... is no snow on the mountains parts of the road and some of the views are breathtaking. The lower tunnel to Andorra is closed for maintenance so we climb even higher than might normally be the case. The tunnel at the top is over two Kms long and we emerge into the affluent, ski settlement of Canillo. It is an impressive sight. The road up to Andorra I think is used for the Tour de France and once through the tunnel the roads are much wider and there are lots of chalets and ...
