The sun shone in through the motel window, they said it would and it did. Not that this has been a wet holiday, but we have had our fair share of rain, more than normal (for us). This was our last day, a leisurely walk up Mill Mountain was to be our final day out for the holiday. Now don't laugh, but Mill Mountain is famous in these parts for the huge star on it's peak that is boasted to be the largest illuminated star in the USA. I can ...

... idea to park the car and walk back to take some photographs. The really low railings on the bridge (approx .7 of a metre) gave a very insecure feeling, the problem being it felt that the handrails would not save you if you fell against them. Walking over the bridge on the narrow footpath gave a severe touch of vertigo. We drove for some little distance south and stopped at numerous overlooks. We took a drive up Roan Mountain which thankfully had ...

We came across an interview with a police officer and a local television station and thought no more until we discovered the ...

... from 55 mph through to 70, but you can almost guarantee that most will travel at about 20 mph over the limit, trucks included! It does at times make for a stressful time, especially in a small car such as ours. We arrived in Roanoke at about 3pm as planned and the motel turned out really nice as usual, a quick look at good old google and an Indian Restaurant looked the go for ...

Got up early to go for a walk. The lobby had a very long line of Africans who have been attending a conference. Also police and Secret Service everywhere. Some in suits and some in uniform, some with bulletproof vests on. Concierge said that Obama was attending the conference to give the Keynote speech. Hung around but didn't see him enter. Very posh hotel. Had Rudy Valley play at it, Beatles stayed there and lots of Presidents and other famous people. Today we went out to ...
