June 5th – Day 32
Truckee is up in the mountains, can
have months and months of snow a year and is a skiing area. Only 20
minutes to Lake Tahoe it is also a stop for tourists all times of the
year and is set up accordingly. Cute little shops and expensive
designer ones, it's really pretty.
Today we drove to Oldtown Truckee to
look through the areas that are the oldest. We were just going to
spend half an hour ...
... away from our departure date. I am satisfied that the trailer is ready for the trip to Alaska and so is the new truck. All we have to do is turn on the refrigerator, fill the fresh water tank and load our clothes and food on the day prior to launch. And yes, one more safety and function check on all the onboard equipment.
As with any mechanical equipment there can be problems. Thorough pre trip preparation helps eliminate many of them.
Todays the last day where we have to be somewhere for a set time, we have to be at Black Rock Bicycles just outside Reno. Left early morning so we could get there before it shuts. Had a stop in by bass pro outdoor and picked up a couple last minute camping things for burning man. The next 8 hours were spent driving through baronless desert, mile upon mile of absolutely nothing but tumbleweed and the odd shanty town. Stopped in past a Wal Mart ...
... On the way back we saw some massive thunderstorms passing north of us which were spectacular with some really big bolts of lightning.
After a couple of hours taking it easy in the apartment we ventured out to have a game of mini-golf; a course had been set with nine holes around the village. On our way to pick up the clubs we were passed by a humming bird. We watched it zip from flower to flower for probably half a minute before it flew off.

The campground is right at the casino/hotel but it is a huge complex so they offer free shuttle rides to the front door of the casino. We went over and tried our luck at black-jack. Bob started with $100 and I had $50. Although we were both up at various points, we finished the night with $50 and $19 respectively. We were playing at a $3 minimum bet table and ...
