We made it. This place is pretty cool. We only did about a third of what's here and we will have to come back. This gorge has been created over hundreds of years of erosion and is really worth the time. Need to plan for a full to 3/4 day to take all this in.

We woke this morning to a beautiful 58 degree, sunny day and were heading out to Watkins Glen State Park by 7:30. It was a nice 2 mile hike around the gorge. Very few people on the trail that early so it was a nice time to photograph the rock formations, streams, and ...

... suffered her greatest embarrassment with me on the last trip. After going to Interlaken and finding nobody there, we returned to the Glen and walked in during the third paragraph of the Watchtower.

Then, in the fifth paragraph I put up my hand to comment and the brother picked me, saying, "The brother who just walked in..."

... went for a drive around the old road course, slipping off that for Mike to take me for a 3-lap trip around the existing circuit.



We also drove up the western side of the lake to the Argetsinger summer cottage. This is on the steep slope that lies between the road and the lake, and it's not used at all in winter.

Michael showed me my room for the night and took me for a bit of a tour... the area down by the lake ...

... All of the flora is extra green, almost neon green ferns, bushes, and trees. Along the path back to the park entrance we took the Indian Trail which passed right by a huge cemetery. The oldest grave we found was marked "Born on March 10, 1798" which is exactly 189 years before I was born! This region around Seneca Lake has 36 vineyards; we saw many of them on our drive in. The landscape is beautiful with tons of old barns on ...
