Back on the Jesuit circuit

Wednesday August 30th San Ignacio to Concepcion Mending time first thing, so now Barb's tiny daypack had a bit more life, and the 3 boliviano repair on Pete's daypack, that had needed safety pins after half a day, was redone properly. The English guy staying in the hostel got his tour after all. Eduardo sets off again tomorrow and is picking up a couple of tourists who are flying into Los Fierros. The first bus to Concepcion left at 11am, company 31 del Este. Avoid this one ! The bus was a ri...

The highest lake in the world

So after our amazing time in Cusco we are now in Bolivia. Not the most taxing border in the world as you might imagine but a bit of an annoying bus journey with stop overs in Puno not being explained to us fully never mind we are now in Copacabana and home of Lake Titicaca the worlds highest lake...We are to learn soon that Bolivia has a lot of "the highest, the biggest, the oldest...etc". On arrival we were herded into the Hotel Colonial (50b for a double room with breakfast) on the main str...

Day 3 & 4

Day 3
At breakfast Nancy brought up a trip to La Mitad del Mundo (the middle of the world, a.k.a. the equator). However, thanks to our lack of Spanish skills, Tamra and I did not know whether she was going to take us there or if we would be responsible for the two hour trip on our own. We ended up taking a local bus with Elsa and Nancy to one of the main bus stations that would help us get to La Mitad Del Mundo.
On the ...

The end of South America

... still hadn't turned up, we went to Shannon's window and talked to her through that. We were about to find a way in (they had locked all the doors!!) when Nazi doc came back and got really angry at us for moving! We seriously waited around 2-3 hours that day without any help, and so we decided to find our own way in and luckily came across a nice doctor who helped us. After all of that, Shannon was released the next day, diagnosed with a normal flu.
After Arequipa we booked a local bus to ...

12 more days of fun, sleep, work, and repeat

... 8211; ‘Arriba, Abajo, Al Centro, Pa Dentro!’ and advised Ecuadorians only ever fill their glasses about a third of the way with beer…but they top up enough to make sure they drink pint after pint throughout the night! They made sure there was lots of salsa playing and they taught me some steps…also teaching me a few rude words too. We have come to realise the men and women in Ecuador a cheeky and dirty to the extreme! As David said ‘We like the sex’. Soon ...

Quiet in Quito

... us being sick. It is a lovely country but we were all glad to be in the lush green hills of Ecuador. Loja was just another overnight stop where we indulged on some great steaks for dinner which made a nice change to Chicken and rice. The next day we traveled to Cuenca, a beautiful colonial town with a huge cathedral and lovely markets selling flowers and of course Panama hats. Yes this is where they come from, not Panama. We went to a museum ...

Mitad del Mundo: The Middle of the World

... a unique cultural experience I'm definitely glad I had! And one that I am perfectly content not to repeat. :) When I told my host family later that night that I had eaten cuy, I think they vommed in their mouths a little. They've never even tried it. Apparently it's an indigenous thing. To cap off what was an amazing and monumental (no pun intended, which for me is a first) day, we went to Pululagua Crater. Other than hopping back and ...
