... over the tree-tops. Vehicle lights were switched on and sunglasses taken off as people made their way home on the busy road network. In the distance, I could see a big city. As we came closer, I could see a pretty line of flowers along the roadside, and flourishing vegetation forming a hedge-like row behind the flowers. A wooden sign had five carefully carved letters on its face saying 'Viseu'.
I punched the air in excitement; we were here!

O plano é:

  • Apanhar boleia com os pais até San Sebastian no dia 30.7.2011
  • Começar a pedalar logo no dia seguinte ou no a seguir a esse, sem pressa ;)
  • Só parar em Santiago, 850 km depois... (e cerca de 15 dias depois também...)

... your exit off the motorway because there is such a long distance between off ramps. Sods law that that was exactly what we did today. I guess we got off fairly lightly though as we only had to continue on for 10km before we were able to exit and get back on in the opposite direction – so only added 20km.

It turned out that Conimbriga was well worth the extra mileage. It was an amazing site and with surprisingly few tourists. Obviously great for us, but not so ...

... vineyards and we watched an amazingly clever machine harvesting the grapes. While walking through the old part of Viseu, David discovered a wine and cheese house and we ducked in to have a drink. This place was such a find. In the back of the shop there was a card game going on with 5 or 6 men playing and in the front part where the bar was they had all sorts of wonderful cheeses and hams.
