Let's Talk About Food Man

So, not too much to report today. Got up, worked, came back, going to dinner. Saw the same old same old magnificent scenery. So.....let's talk a little more about what I've been eating.

First of all, the Portuguese are very tricky. They put all these wonderful things on the table like fantastic bread, fresh cheese, olives, sardines, etc. Much like the bread or chips and salsa you might find in America. However, allthough you ...

The good, the bad, and the ugly

What an interesting day today. Let's start with the good.

I have an ankle again, there's a big knot on it, but I can actually see the shape of an ankle.

It was a beautiful day today, couldn't have asked for anything more. Sunshine, fresh air, blue skies, not to warm, not too hot, low humidity. Everything I had hoped for!

Now the bad

What a day!

Had another great day today. I don't think I'm mentioned it yet, but our hotel has a continental breakfast, and one of my favorite things is fig cake. It is similar to banana bread or zucchini bread, but with figs. It is my favorite. If you haven't already guessed but some of my previous pictures, but the island is covered with dairy cows. The have fantastic butter and cheese ...

Adventure Day!

Ola - had a big day today. Ended up cancelling my whale watching trip. It was nasty weather this morning and I figured it wouldn't be good to stand on a small boat in the ocean for four hours with my ankle. As you can see in the pictures below, it's turned a nice shade of purple and has swelled down to my toes. But, the combination of the topical ointment, muscle relaxers, advil, ankle brack, and tennis shoes made it ...

Tin Tin and the Song of the Santorini

... 3 segmented seats and somehow conning myself into a short lived but much deserved nap. but this dude.  this little drunk dude in a plaid shirt is singing again.  his voice is high and penetrating and he seems to know every portuguese song ever recorded.  when he started singing as we left the dock, me and moo smiled and enjoyed it.  what a character, what a great voice, what a lovely diversion from a dull 6 hour ride.  and so he sang.  and sang.maybe his ...

Utopia After Party, Lola The Van & Hotel Recovery

... pack in the care of some others while we went to check in to a hotel for a couple of nights of sleep and recovery. We took a comfortable room with a balcony in the middle of the town, went shopping for yummy foods and watched the first and last of the Beijing Olympics we would see on the TV in our room. We were in heaven even if it was just watching the women´s diving. I soaked for one hour in the bath and used all the complimentary bath gel, shampoo and cleaning liquid i ...

Guarda

My uncle and my aunt came to pick us up, at the arrival of the train (before 6am). As we wanted to have a coffee with a delicious Portuguese pastry, but as the coffee shops were not yet opened, we went to see the sunrise from the front of the cathedral.

Coimbra

... freshers around doing stupid things all over the place which was a little bit entertaining. The morning found us treking around town looking for the bus station with our packs on which sort of sucked. It looked similar to Salamanca, if not a little older and a little more run down, but most of Portugal has been like that so far ...

Pushing my limits

... of the hill, looking down on a whole flock of sheep - the source of all the ringing bells. The two young shepherds tending them seemed very surprised when they looked up and saw a random girl gazing back. When I finally reached the highest point on Torre, fog was starting to roll in and I was nervous about getting back before I got caught. So, after taking a few pictures and enjoying my magnum bar reward, I headed back down. There was no way in hell that I was going to go ...
