Neuschwanstein Castle

A travel blog entry by jlmcclure on Oct 27, 2014

Up and about at 7am and after some brekky we took a taxi to Hauptbahnhof (Central Station), where we started our tour to King Ludwig's castle. It is believed this castle is the idea behind Walt Disney's Snow White castle. The castle is quite a way out of Munich so off we go. First onto a train with our guide and our 7 other tour people, all English speaking, good start! We were on the first train for about 15 mins and then we were all ushered off and onto another train for about ...

But viewing Neuschwanstein from Mary's Bridge, suspended above the castle, has been the highlight of this trip so far. It was definitely worth a 2-hour train ride and an hour's worth of hiking to see this modern wonder.

There was a heavily enforced no photo policy inside the castle, so unfortunately I cannot show you inside other than the kitchen, which we saw after the tour was over. The thirty minute tour consisted of several rooms including the sevarnt quarters, the throne room, King Ludwig’s bedroom and Great Hall, all with several long winding ...

... they painted and the "reverse-glass" painting technique they popularized. Then Jon surprised the group with a wonderful dinner at the Gasthof Zur Post in Wallgau, a beautiful restaurant that Elizabeth Taylor and Ric*********** visited, and where Jon and one of his ski-buddies had eaten over 40 years ago...it was just as good last night as long ago...maybe better.
Today we visited the grandest of all of Ludwig's castles, ...

Sandy's view - What day is it? Funny how you lose track of days and time when you are on vacation. Yesterday we spent the day touring some really big castles in the rain and fog, and they were pretty amazing! But there were soooo many people there, and we were ready to leave by the end. There were lots of umbrellas to dodge! The land here is just so stunning, green everywhere, and i have never seen so many gorgeous flowers. Window boxes are everywhere and overflowing with geraniums ...
