... back in Cologne. It is nice to be feel normal, have energy, not want to take a nap every 30, we slept in a little and then headed to town for breakfast. We asked for an American breakfast (snobs?) and she sent us to a hotel about a block away. Actually it was a lot like the food on board but we had a hard boiled egg - and then it's fun to be in the big city. Luckily we are near the city ...

Saturday, Oct 31 - We spent the morning touring Cologne. There are only a couple of reasons to visit Cologne - to see the Cathedral and to buy Eau de Cologne! We saw the Catherdral. This massive structure took 600 years to build and towers over the rest of the city. (There is a law that you can't build anything higher or that obstructs the view of the spires.) We learnt about the history of Cologne, or Koln as it is called in Germany. With a population of 1 million, it's the 4th biggest city in Germany (behind Berlin, Hamberg, Munich). The Romans established a settlement at this location on the Rhine about 2000 years ago and it has has continuous settlement ever ...

... hl after 5 pm. Traffic was crazy as there is a train strike on in Germany and the transit was shut down today. ( there was also a kindergarten strike over wages of the teachers-they were at the cathedral). Sadly that meant we were unable to visit any other attractions of Cologne ( including a Lindt chocolate museum :( ). Certainly minimizes the shopping bill when I don't have time or energy to return to shop after the tours! Dinner was lovely with chicken cassoulet ...
