... and 20 minutes queuing is a nightmare on one of the busiest days in the British travellers calendar. Eventually we head back via a reasonable change at Reading and we get to Newton Abbott station and a quick cab ride home.

I'd pre warned our neighbours who had been fantastic at filling our empty fridge and freezer with staples to get us through our first night back. There was a welcome party ready with keys, help ...

... like they should be on a sunny December day, its Reading next stop.

We are late arriving at Reading so its grab our many bags and dash to platform 5 for the 3.20 to Gatwick. But this so called 1st class carriage consists of 16 seats filled to the brim with cases, travellers, screaming children, prams and Great Western staff going home! Then walked across Mt Edgecombe parkland along an inlet from the sea to Cremyll, when we had a drink in the old pub, the Edgecombe Arms, before walking back; in all, about 3 miles.
Lovely lazy dinner in front of a roaring fire. So good to see our old pals ...

... ferry across the the Hamoaze, a stretch of water at the mouth of the River Tamar, between Devon and Cornwall.

Took a wrong turn and ended up in very narrow Cornish lane, where we had cars behind us and forced three cars to back backwards uphill so we could pass them.

Arrived at Tregantle cliffs, overlooking Whitsand Bay, to stay with old friends Liz and John, whom we had last seen in February. Great welcome as always, in their lovely windy cottage overlooking the ...
