East Fife v Alloa Athletic - 5/12/2009

... but one side has nothing - it's just bare and exposing a monstrous building left from the time when the area mined coal from under the sea. I ask a guy sat next to me what the building is used for now and he tells me that it's going to be dismantled but requires a lot of money and asbestos specialists to take it down. The coastline will look ...

Scottish History

... Drovers Inn, which was established in 1705 and is pretty much untouched since. Rob Roy used to down a pint there, and the place is filled with all weird and wacky taxidermied animals, including the rare Haggis creature!

Back on the bus and we were told the story of Rob Roy - a farm boy who became a drover, then a cow theif and eventually a Scottish Robin Hood of sorts. We also visited Hamish the Hairy Coo (Cow) who is the ...

Day 5 - 404 miles in 3 AA Tow Trucks

... phones through to the AA and books a transporter to take me back to take me back to Nottingham (East Leake).

Tow truck 1, turns up at 11:50 to take me on the first leg of the journey home from Fort William to Stirling. This takes approx 3 hours and I get dropped at Stirling service station where I am supposed to be met by the next tow truck. It takes about an hour for the next truck to turn up. Which was arranged for 14:30

Scone at Scone

... there because the original was taken by Queen Elizabeth the First to Westminster about 700 years ago.
For morning tea of course I had a scone. I also beat Danny into the centre of the maze - my thrill for the day.
Next we met up with Dorothy's daughter Amanda at the Crieff Visitors Centre where there is a glass-blowing workshop. The heat those blokes (and sheilas) have to work in is incredible. They get globs of molten glass on the end of lo-o-o-ong poles and ...

Off to the airport

... I waited until they called my turn, I still got on ahead of a lot of the would-be gatecrashers. This did, however, give me an idea: if someone gets in line too early, take their boarding pass, give them the stub, and direct them into a corridor with a door that locks behind them, and another door at the other end that's only unlocked once everyone who follows instructions has boarded.

Flying Scotsman...

... enjoy the leisure facilities - pool, sauna and steam room just the tonic after my wanderings! After relaxing, I headed out for an excellent nite out with Paul, Charlie, Neil, Lindsey, Sarah, Louise, Kevin and Nicola. Needless to say plenty alcohol was enjoyed, although so was good food along the way. Pubs were visited, memories were fractured and my return to the hotel was slightly ...

Bonnie Scotland

... didn't look a whole lot like Mel Gibson, but it was super interesting. And, we got to climb 246 steps to the most incredible view of the city. Except the wind was blowing fairly hard so our time at the top was a bit limited! They explained his fight for Scottish freedom and the troubles he faced, and it makes the movie that much more understandable. Kids had fun counting the stairs on the way down to see if they really did 246. Matt got 240 ...
