We had planned to return to did the return trip on the scenic train back to Nantes and stay the extra night, but I had not booked because we didn't know what it was going to be like. Unfortunately, the Hotel Pommeroye was booked out for the second night, so we decided on plan B and taking the train from Orleans to Tours, then from Tours to Caen and Bayeux.

... the bag into the rubbish bin. Alarm bells went off so I quickly turned and headed back to the shopping area. I became rather flighty after this so decided not to venture too far away from shops where I could duck in if I felt concerned. I browsed a number of street with shops and stopped for a late lunch - was pleased to find a place serving salad. I people watched and practiced some French with the waiter. ... records and books for sale (and under one stall were 2 very old French horns and a bugle - pity I couldn't fit them into my case. And then came the food stall - fruits and veg, prosciutto, cold meats, breads, olives, candied nuts, etc. there was even escargot. the French are so polite - none of this crowding around the front of the stall to be served - they all line up in an orderly fashion and wait ever so patiently. ... lunch we visited the museum of etangs and, whilst we had a very enthusiastic guide who took the group to the lake and back inside explained all the wildlife and history, it was all in fast-spoken French so hard to catch even the odd word or phrase and we subtly slipped sway from the tour after 40 mins or so.
A final swim in the pool and re-match of volleyball (joined by a rust-coloured toad who fancied a dip) before packing and eating up the fridge again!
