... hurricane was still passing we downgraded to a motel type place called Villa Rosa where we discovered the delights of Mexican TV. Some of the pop stars they have on there woudlnt have even made it throught the cleaners auditions for X Factor. Next day the hurricane had passed and we went to the beach which was the nicest we had ever seen...white powder sandy beaches and clear blue sea with Mayan ruins on the cliff.
Spent a few days here ...
... the sea I was so much in love with. A few skinks and lizards sunned themselves as we wandered around. The coast was pounding here as there were rocks, unlike further down where we had swam.
The temples were built from this rock. There was a big stone fence around everything and it was thought to have been an important port for the Mayans. This is possibly where the Spanish first saw some of this civilization too. There were some paintings not facing the wind that still had ...
... was at least up to 100m. Diving in the cenotes was literally like flying through caves. There wasn't too much fish life but the experience itself was about the underwater rivers and the caves formed. We surfaced half way through the dive in a bat cave before returning. Back at the Acuatic Tulum Dive Center, Artorro showed us a map of the extensive underwater river network in the area. They carry on for kilometers and kilometers. I was really glad to have done the dive, but ...
Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico vermaakjeanne... back (roll on being an uncle ha ha!) then after 2 hours of going mad to buzzing game boys n 'kids stuff' noises, we arrived in Tulum to the roaring heat! The town was a cool place, reminded me abit of the hippy town of Nimbin in Oz many years ago, it had lots of cafes, juice bars, craft places and a relaxed feel. Adding to this our accommodation for the night was a mud hut cabana on stilts amongst a jungle type setting with the tunes of Bon ...
Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico nikandads2008... center-restaurant. We went up to the restaurant, and climbed to the top, where we had a clear view of the whole reserve. How cool. A large swath of jungle separated a clear white beach (the only thing whiter than the beaches down here is my skin, according to Frank, haha) from the lagoon, as it´s called. After a great lunch, we walked down to the beach and then off on a ...
Tulum, Mexico frankenmeg... teachers and 2 other students join the class, all of whom appeared to be fluent in espanol. We were each tasked with taking a turn on doing a wee exercise on the white board and being interrogated in spanish by our classmates to guess what the item was. Whenever it was Dave or I up there, every one of our responses began with another question......namely ¿qué?! Didn´t have a scooby what they were saying to us. So while ...
Akumal, Mexico themcallens... some strange looks when she ordered one.?? Street stalls were abundant. We ate some tacos of pork and chicken and a corn cob with cream, chilli and parmesan cheese. I also ate an insanely tasty fried banana covered in what i think was sweetened, condensed milk. yumbo jumbo! Tomorrow we do laundry, re-coup our packs and head out to the Caribbean beach at Tulum to stay in cabanas where there is no electricity for three days and time to swing a hammock
Coba, Mexico inoursuitcase... culprits fess up. Angela yells out, "let´s just each of us give him a dollar so we can go." Then I, the more mature one, yell out, "does anyone know the way to Mexico? Let´s just drive ourselves." I don´t like being held hostage. Finally someone gives him a 20 dollar bill and we are on our way again. I´m learning to hate Belize. But then I think about it. That $20 was probably the guys pay for the ...
Tulum, Mexico francesco0... wrong side. I asked about it and found out they leave every 15 minutes. I was looking at the express schedule. Oh. Neat. Caught the 10:30 bus. I knew that the first stop was going to be Playa de Carmen and the second was going to be Tulum. So I had to get off at the second stop. At the first stop, it was pretty neat because these Germans came by and sat next to me. I was the only non-Mexican on the bus, so it was neat to talk in English with people. They said they were going ...
Tulum, Mexico bsuarez... We arrived at 12.00 and we made some sandwiches for the lunch: more stairs in the pyramids were waiting for us! The place is considered as the main ceremonial center for the maya culture and, for me, the best of the travel. It is possible to go to a small falls of the Otolom river. Score: 5 Location: 7 km from Palenque village (Chiapas state). YAXCHILÁN The following ...
