Playa Xcalacoco Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, 77710, 9-874-7056
... before heading down to Tulum but in the end I decided to sack it off and just went straight to Tulum. Having seen Acapulco I had a pretty good idea what Cancun would be like, just on a bigger scale and not the sort of place that does anything for me.
I left Tulum today after 4 nights there. Its basically a beach resort that has a few other things to do but having been moving around at quite a fast pace for the weeks leading up to that ...
... skills...fairly unsuccessfully really - the phrase books did have to come out of the pockets! We did well and got some excellent food then most of us made our way back to Papaya Playa for beach time. Lucy and I set up camp on the bed swings and promptly fell asleep. We met up with Milly later to chat about plans for tomorrow then Teryn and I chilled in our shack.. neither hungry of thirsty just plain stuffed. Its off to Belize tomorrow!
Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico chooklotto... to walk along the road instead. About three kilometres later I finally made it back to a cold and windy Papaya Playa. My plans to laze in the sun for the afternoon were dashed, so I decided to try to change my travellers cheques at the bank. I spent two hours in the queue at the bank in town to be told that they couldn't give me US dollars, only pesos which is not what I wanted. I still made it home in time to have some spaghetti for dinner before happy hour at six.
Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico danasv... her house keeper we where on our way. I just want to put in perspective how wonderful Janet and Jack are. It was almost as if I had know them for years, as if I could trust them with life. So Janet takes us to the Bus station to buy our tickets, my Spanish is utterly broken and I am never sure if the " Uh Huh..Uh huh's " that I get from the locals are understood or they are just being polite, So we leave it up to Janet to buy our tickets for us. Just our luck ...
Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico arainbolt... people, with very cool accents. Tulum, the town we`re in is on the Carribean coast, and the beach and sea are idyllic. We´re both a bit pink having just got back from an afternoon of being on the beach and swimming in the clear blue water. We`re staying in a proper youth hostel, with dorms and shared kitchen (you don't find many of these in Guatemala), which is a good thing, as Mexico is noticably more developed and along ...
Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico jvcullenAfter another stupid 12 hours ride, I decided to relax and pull off the plug for a day. I stayed in Punte Allen, a wonderful -and remote - miscroscopic village on the beach. I slept on the beach in a little cabañas. I will upload photos, knowing that I may loose a few friends in the process. C'est l'heure de la decompression. L'heure du bilan. Hier soir, je me suis isole sur une belle plage de sable fin, j'ai parle a ...
Punte Allen, Mexico sf2paris... a constant hum of blasting Mariachi from shop stereos and the bustle and hustle of local business. I caught the free bus to the beach just after meeting a guy from Seattle, and ended up spending the rest of the day with him. We lounged with the rest of the hostel crowd on the beach, I felt out the water with some frisbee, but eventually the beach is just too chill for someone full of zeal to explore. I convinced Travis, the Seattle guy ...
Tulum, Mexico michaela... is no electricity. There is a restaurant on the grounds and drinking water is available in the rooms. We weren't directly on the beach (there are dorms and other bungalows that are), but it was just a short walk away. Charlie picked me up and we went back into town for dinner ($300). Once back to the hotel, we took a walk along the beach, enjoying the full moon-- it was just perfect. Unfortunately, the bungalow received little of the night air and the humidity made sleep difficult.
Tulum, Mexico mbwatrous... It was interesting to see how different parts of the ruin had been built at different times in Mayan history, evidenced by changing styles of columns and art. They even recycled stones and artwork from abandoned buildings when rebuilding the city later on. We explored every part of the ruin in about three hours and sweated about three gallons while doing so. Then it was off to Merida, by bus of course, where we arrived in the early evening. We think we will stay here for two or three days.
Chichen Itza, Mexico casey_matt... We're excited to start diving, seeing the ruins, etc and plan out our next few days. We wake up Friday morning and its pouring outside, again. Thanks to a tropical storm somewhere off the coast, we have rain so hard you can't even think about going outside in any amount of rain gear without getting soaked. Finally, after Emily and I are starting to be convinced that it is never ever going to stop, the rain lets up around 4pm. We decide to make a dash for the ruins, just about a ...
