Children of the Corn..

... worse than Columbian customs themselves. As night broke we crammed our way onto Captain D, our final vessel on the mission to the Corn Islands, where we were to rest and kick back in true Carribean style, Rum in hand and beach at our feet.

The rocky cargo boat was crammed by the time we boarded, women and children bum fighting for spots on bunks and space on wooden benches. Hammocks hung from the ceilings, swung side by side next to hand carved wooden wardrobes, chickens and ropes ...

The Show must go on...

"... the time of my life..."

Halli Hallo liebe Leute,

Barca or no Barca

HE SAID:

We arrived at our hotel; Casa Harb. It used to be someone's home so there are only about 5 rooms here. The place is a nice retreat from the craziness of town. Our first night we had an excellent meal at La Regatta. This restaurant is at the end of the dock and the view was as good as the food (although pricey). Colombia is definitely not cheap, and this island ...

San Andres Caribbean Island

San Andres is not somewhere I guess I would typically travel. It's not quite off-the-beaten-track and does attract quite a few package tourists. However it's not really that hard to see a different side, and that was my goal. So after I arrived and relaxed in the hotel, I went out to find the local's watering hole. It turned out to be a shop! So joined a couple of the natives and we chatted away fr the evening. Gabriel, a ...

Island of San Andres

Beautiful Place. Perfect temperatures. Our hotel is (very) far from being a Palace but the view is worth millions!!! Sorry for the short story but I am too busy doing nothing or swimming with rays... The 18th, we went around the island but the weather was as if a hurricane must be having fun close by. The wind and rain are impressive and there was no possibility to swim. At least, I will not get sunburn. Let's hope the plane will be able to take off tomorrow. Next stop, Santa Marta.

Christmas in San Andres

Happy Holidays! I was lucky enough to have my parents come and visit me for Christmas. I flew into San Andres on Dec. 19th, then met them the next day for a week at an all inclusive resort. Not only was it amazing to have my family with me for the holidays, but it was also pretty incredible to unpack and stay in one place for a while. And not having to pay for food and drinks for an entire week was pretty nice ...

PROVIDENCIA

The 2 days on the island of Providencia was a nice break from the tourist hustle of Cartagena. Though the island's not as lush as I'd imagined, we're still weeks away from any kind of rainy season. However, Providencia's winning quality stems from it's ultra-laid back island mentality and the warmth and friendliness of its locals. This island is the sort of place where the road is shared by wandering livestock. The residents ride around on mopeds ...

Soulburger in Paradise

The revelations just keep coming, none so beautiful as Guatemala, but still interesting, nonetheless. I guess I'm more of a mountain person than a beach person. Mountains are closer to God. The Air Force doesn’t create sleazy port cities in the mouintains like the Navy does on the coasts. But I’ve already seen Godly beautiful beach in Belize. I guess I just didn’t know that South America had black people, not English-speaking ones anyway ...
