Madonna wrote a song about this place?

... had planned on spending up to three days there but, after we got the run around from the dive shop, we booked the first flight out of there. We found Belize to be way over priced, the people could give a ****, and there's definitely some kind of drug element going on there. The best thing I could say about Belize is that they speak English. Out of our 5 weeks traveling through the coast and jungles of Mexico, this was the place we felt most unsafe.

The Cayes

... Coba ruins in Mexico, where I climbed a tall pyramid and then shook in my boots the whole way down. On the trails arouns the ruins I saw a coati eating seeds and bugs on the side of the trail. I then slowly made my way to the Cayes. I plan on traveling to San Ignacio to do some jungle trekking in a few days, and I'll write more then. Here are some of the photos of Coba and Ambergris Caye.

Caye Caulker and diving the Blue Hole

... of the rollercoaster journey we experienced on the way there! Having made it to Dangriga we managed to catch the bus to Belize City, running to catch it just as it pulled out of the station. Unfortunately this left no time for the toilet break I had been very much hoping for, and so for the first 20 minutes or so I sat sulking and muttering every time the bus rumbled over (one of the many) speed bumps and potholes. As we reached Belmopan (the capital) 2 hours later, I ...

Tranquilo

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear...I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life..." - Thoreau, Walden "I sat in my sunny doorway from sunrise till noon, rapt in a ...

What all divers must do

... a note saying the dive trip was cancelled due to bad weather. I was guttered. After getting a refund i found another dive centre that said they were definitely going out the next day. I spent the day snorkelling with Mille, a danish girl who was friends with the Germans i was staying with (they had gone on a snorkelling trip to the reefs). We tried to find a pair of grey nurse sharks that were meant to be near the beach but had no luck. After witnessing a bar ...

The best part was the pie.

... The gallery and art section of Caribbean Colors spent another few minutes until it was fully dark and we had to go back to Costa Maya. Once there, we found Heather had already put our bags in the new room and registered for a replacement snorkel tour for the morning, to make up for the one to the Blue Hole we had wanted that was canceled due to the rain. Back at the new room, we were, and remain, baffled. This room was at least twice the size of the other, had a ...

From the Blue Hole, Belize

... where they are found. After our third snorkel we headed back to San pedro where the crew made rum punch, but waited until we got through the choppy seas before giving it to us. We finally made it back around 5:30pm and after such a long day in the sun and swimming I was asleep by 9pm. Today we did two snorkels in Hol Chan and Ray and Shark Alley. Basically we swam with nurse sharks and sting rays, saw some eels and tons of ...

Belize It!

... that what the jungle offers in green, Belize offers in blue. The ocean here is of a pigment that can´t be imagined or remembered. Each time one revisits this Caribbean oasis, an unavoidable thought of having never seen blues this intense replaces any notion that a memory or a picture can do these colors justice. That´s just the ocean. Belize is a place where time seems to slow just enough to let its ...

... one. It's meaning is unconfirmed as when she test ran it by a Belizean friend, she hadn't heard it used as an interjection. But, given the context, we're pretty sure it was replacing a rhyming religious phrase. We also sampled some local holiday delicacies: Rumpopo - Belizean egg nog. Like the kind you know, including lots of nutmeg and LOTS of rum. Traditional for Christmas reveling. Black Cake - A Belizean holiday fruit cake, again with LOTS of rum (notice a trend here ...
