Historical Traveler Reviews of Coast Santa Cruz Hotel Santa Cruz
Beautiful location

On the beach. What a view-rooms are standard, nice and have a balcony. Be sure to request the Towers-quieter not directly over the pool. My kids loved the pool, clean beach,a block to Arcade and Boardwalk. Sitting on that balcony late at night was wonderful. Keeping the patio door open to hear the ocean-well worth the steep price! Save up your money for this one, you will be glad you did.
A view worth every penny.

This hotel has a wonderful view and a helpful staff. Conviently located directly next to the fisherman's wharf and 1 block down from the the boardwalk. With our AAA discount this hotel was only about $30 more a night than others further inland with no view at all. The morning room service was very good as well. The complimentary valet parking was excellent too. It was just wonderful to sleep at night and here the ocean pounding on the beach. Only complaint is we booked a king bed and for some reason the reservation said 2 queens. Other than that an amazing stay.
The view is worth it

This hotel was a welcome site after a different hotels reservations turned sour. I found it in the dead of night driving around and didn't know about the view. It was very refreshing to walk out on the balcony and see the ocean and the city all at once. The staff was very polite and the room was priced as expected. Right off of the boardwalk breakfast on the beach is excellent. Fish and chips to die for! My stay here was an excellent end to a nightmare vacation.
View, Beach, Pool, Boardwalk

This is a great place to stay. It's on the beach with a pool. The beach is clean with plent of room to spread out. The rooms all overlook the ocean and have wide a sliding glass door to let the sea breeze in for refreshing nights sleep with the sound of the waves. When I needed a wine opener, the staff gave me two complimentary ones. It's a short walk to the Boardwalk. The rooms were clean and comfortable. There is a shower where you come in from the beach where you can wash the sand off before coming into the pool area. The valets were courteous and let us keep our car there after we checked out and were spending the day at the Boardwalk. For a quick bite try the taco/burrito stand across the street. We will definitely return.
Overpriced

Our stay here wasn't scheduled. We called in after a long drive, it looked nice so we stayed. The hotel was good but not exceptional apart from the great view of the evening sky, the ocean and beach. The hotel is situated right on the beach. The room was quite large and comfortable. We visited the amusement park near closing time of 10pm and it was fun though rather outdated but that added to it's charm. The hotel pool was good, situated just above the beach so the view was nice. The main problem I had was with the price. Being tired, I couldn't be bothered to haggle and just accepted the rather high price quoted. I'm sure I could have got a better deal. If I had been prepared to shop around, I'm sure I could have got just as nice a room for much less money but that view made up for it.
Our Dream Inn!

Once known as the Dream Inn this hotel sits in the middle of what is really the Santa Cruz experience. The main building is ten stories and each room has a sweeping view of the Boardwalk, pier and Cowells Beach, one of the premier long board waves in the world. Bring the kids! If they decide they want to leave the private pools and spa a new skatepark was built across from the pier. Rent a fishing pole and let the kids fish while you shop or dine in some of the fine restraunts on the pier. And of course there is always the Boardwalk! My favorite though is walking, running or riding along West Cliff Drive. A moonlight walk to Lighthouse Point (Steamers Lane) was a memory for the ages. Friday and Saturday rates of $300 (no AAA discount those days), $225 Sunday to Thursday with AAA discount.Utilize the complimentary valet parking; we inadvertantly left our car open at the lot across the street and were ripped off of anything of value; though I appreciate they did no malicious damage! We will be back (and remember to lock the car)!

The view is what makes this place and decent sized balconies all face the beach and warm your heart. I recommend for families or kids. It's a bit loud and noisy but if you book early or with a AAA card, you can get a good rate and then it is worth the money. All wedding guests stayed over memorial day weekend and the traffic was so bad to the boardwalk, that it was worth staying here and walking to the pier, boardwalk, or West Cliff Dr. Rooms are standard, Holiday Inn style. So, you pay for the view, but if ocean view is what you want, go for it!
Overrated, over priced
from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel has had 3 owners in the past few years, which is the first red flag. Second, they price their rooms so high, you get nothing but an ocean view for the price - the bed, room and everything else is comprable to the Holiday in down the street for 1/3 the price. If you have money to throw away do it otherwise it is not what it sounds like!!Chris
Great hotel

The West Coast Santa Cruz Hotel is a great hotel to stay at. It is right on the beach just a couple blocks down from the boardwalk. I was there right before Christmas so unfortunately the amusement park was closed, but the weather and the staff were great! The hotel has recently come under new management and they immediately raised the rates but do still offer specials. I would highly recommend the hotel.
