The drive from Prince George, BC to Prince Rupert, BC is one of the most majestic and striking roads I've driven thus far. Fantastic. The coast range rises in every direction, snow capped still on top and green and lush by the roadside. It's exactly what you think British Columbia looks like but more so. You go through two ranges with something a little like a mini central valley at the center. The last 100 km is spent following the -remember names of river later- Skeena? Skeenie? Scoma? rive...

... usually ran 9:00am-12:00pm, 2:00pm-5:00pm, and 7:00-10:00pm, and Anna was there most of the time we weren’t in port. She had the ship down already, and would go check herself in at her leisure. They had wonderful activities, including a special cake decorating class with the head sous chef, at which they met the captain.
At Sea, British Columbia, Canada nellieva... and a purse shop called Udder Bags. Near Cow Bay was the Museum of Northern British Columbia which featured historical exhibits on the Tlingit tribe and European settlers of the area. The rest of Prince Rupert seems economically depressed with a somewhat run-down downtown area. I had the pleasure of doing laundry at a downtown laundromat where half the machines were broken and apparently weren’t in ...
Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada pmf1153Got up early this morning at Margarets after a great sleep on a heavenly bed, had a delicious breakfast and had to literally book it for the ferry. She lives on a lake and you can only get there by ferry, which leaves every 50 minutes and we really wanted to make the 850am. We pulled up right as they were loading - perfect timing. Left Burns Lake and our first stop would be Smithers ...
Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada bcgirl... you have 15 hours of airtime to do so? Me and Jen (a Rotary exchange student on her way to Belo Horizonte) will both be flying together. We have a 7 hour stopover in Houston, Texas. Great, just great? I figure we'll be fine but I am hoping to get a crazy picture of a typical Texas cowboy. It's in the middle of the day so we should be able to find something to entertain ourselves with. Overpriced internet cafes. Longggg lunch? Oh yeah, the 7 hours will ...
Port Edward, British Columbia, Canada sunshinee... took place long before blogging was even invented, there is only a distant memory that remains. While this sounds plausible, even more compelling is the need to store the many photographs taken during trips in a convenient place which will be accessible at some future point in time (barring the demise of Travelpod). This need was brought about by my newly discovered interest in digital photography which is a great joy and toy especially for travelers ...
Prince George, British Columbia, Canada loboSpent four nights in Prince Rupert, old cannery town closer to Alaska. We were expecting snow and glaciers, but in fact the weather was fine and not cold at all really. There was a lovely area in the old part of town called cow bay - everything was cow skin print - pretty cool. We did a bit of walking along an old track - the visitor centre said it was closed off but fine to walk on. Hmmm, maybe ...
Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada a_d_smith... the little lake at the foot of the glacier. My arrival in Stewart is now in complete darkness but that did not matter since I had just completed one of the most exciting drives in a long time. It was with anticipation that I went to bed thinking about what was to come tomorrow, with Alaska only minutes away. In closing I have to return to the bear theme. As I mentioned on my way back the next day I also saw seven black bears ...
Stewart BC, Canada lobo... breakfast and prepared for another boat trip before our floatplane was due to collect us at 12.30 pm. We saw inquisitive harbour seals looking at us as we passed by, and a couple of black-tailed deer on the bank. WE then saw tracks of an adult bear and three cubs on a sandy beach which the guide estimated to be about three hours old. After waiting offshore for about an hour, he decided to drift down-river, and when we were a couple of hundred metres from a shallow gravel-bed ...
