... dug to get into South Korea. It was deep and long and at the end, we just got to look through a hole to see into a couple more other holes. The hike back up from the tunnel was a killer, I ran the frist few hundred metres and then was pufffing all the way up. It was so tiring. The USO tour guide was very nice, I'm not sure if the other guides do that, but because the day cleared up, they took us back to Dora Observatory to see into North Korea ...
Seoul, Korea Rep. teamrocket8... was looking for. juice costs $10 a glass and apparently, if you meet your juice quota for the month, no whoring required. we also heard a rumor that the bars are run by the korean mafia who regularly threaten officials, on both sides, if their bars get on the off-limits list. this, on the heals of our very exciting, real-life geisha sighting during our trip to busan last weekend. we were ...
Osan, Gyeonggi, Korea Rep. ironswanLast night we went to a theater performance called Nanta Cookin'. They did not talk, but they beat kitchen utensils to make music. It was really funny too, it had a plot. They also actually cooked- it smelled so good. And they got the audience involved. I really wish Chandler could have been there, because he would have LOVED it!! They travel to the US sometimes, so we should look online and see if they willl ever be near Seattle. Otherwise, Chandler will ...
Seoul, Seoul, Korea Rep. laurenhonican... I visit another country, I usually just go with the flow and not say anything. But I have been to Korea. I know the culture well enough to begin speaking, I think. I have become a respected outsider, I think.
So, today, she offered to make lunch. Her father was there. And so it was lunch for the three of us. That's cool. Ramen noodles. Not fancy. But good.
During the meal, the father asked where the rice was (I almost ...
After five months of living in Seoul, I finally got around to hiking Gwanaksan ("Gwanak Mountain"). Amanda and I managed to blow all but $200 of our monthly paycheck in a single weekend, so we decided to take advantage of the cost free entertainment opportunities in our area for the remainder of this month's weekends. It was so beautiful up there! The branches of giant trees fused together and made a canopy above our heads so it was quite cool, as opposed to the swealtering ...
Seoul, Korea Rep. april.abate... fresh and consisted of probably 20 different small dishes which we shared. Various vegetables, roots and fresh mountain herbs, kimchis and soup. It was delicious and it's sad to see how Korea has lost touch with their traditional culture and cuisine. Following lunch we walked around other cute neighborhoods, a welcome break from the neon flashing lights and high-rises of my area. We ended up back at my friends house for a night of wine and conversation ...
Seoul, Korea Rep. truddick... same shirts and shoes. What a great marketing strategy and commitment enforcing project to get your significant other to dress in the same clothing! It seems as though the relationships here are set for life (your hooked and your together or you’re not) there is no shade of grey!
The food as with everything gets ‘old’. Kimchi the most popular dish ...
... everyone in Seoul is at work! My friend Jason went to Taiwan over the Lunar New Year break and now he is in the hospital....I heard they think he caught the Avian Flu!!! How scary!!!! All of Sunday I was so icky! I bummed around my apartment wheezing and coughing...it was horrible. Monday I was actually able to relax a little bit and then by Tuesday I was itching to get out of that tiny little room! Did I tell you last weekend ...
Seoul, Korea Rep. april.abate... in winter, so she has to go on a diet..." --- And sometimes an otherwise normal lesson will have this one, random burst of inappropriateness. Did you see it? Look at what Linda was wearing on Wednesday when it was sunny and 22C. I actually didn't notice it until I was in front of some third-graders and one of them said, "Linda wore hot pants on Wednesday. Teacher, what are hot pants?" --- Sometimes I come across something that ...
Seoul, Korea Rep. roadballmint... she was admitted to her first choice graduate school for speech language pahtology. This was a HUGE acccomplishment as only 10 people get in out of 50. And she really wanted to go to this school in particular. So now we don't have to get up so early and get on the road which is nice. I am excited for today because we are leaving Seoul and venturing out into other parts of Korea. I can't wait!! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!
