Went for breakfast early, 8.30. Had papaya and pinapple. The met Rasham at the hostel who drove us to Kandy. Wanted to stop on the way at Pinnewella, however it was thundering and raining so we decided to miss this, and go to another nature reserve on the island. Stopped at the Spice Garden, felt slightly awkward as the tour was free so was expected to ...

... of a jaded mood by our guide, we couldn't resist making some jokes about how they had perfectly hung power lines in the view of the sunset. Attention to detail people! But overall, it was memorable. The hike down was tough, but eventually we parted ways with the gas producing spiting machine, got some breakfast and prepared for the next leg.

THIS IS WHY WE INVENTED SHOES. I'm just ...

... as the hoards of pilgrims slowly filtered away from the mountain and out of town. Honestly, there were thousands of them. By late afternoon, the town was reasonably quiet. We didn't really do anything through the day. Nursing a nasty head cold that popped up yesterday, I was keen to rest as much as possible before getting up at the seriously obscene hour of 1.30am. Considering the sky has clouded over and the heavens just opened, I think it's going to be a looong ...

    Kandy to Nuwara Eliya

We were to be on the train to Nuwara Eliya, from Kandy, today but there has been a landslide and the train has been cancelled indefinitely. So bus it is to be. We were annoyed to hear when we got to our residence, that the manager had returned from voting by train, on the same rail line. So we asked Our guide, Neville, to see if we can return to Kandy by train in a few days time. Lots of talk about the elections and it seems that ...
