... Kings tombs carved into the cliff face walls before reaching turtle beach... Unfortunately we were too late in the season to see the females come up and lay their eggs or the hatchlings - but the beach was beautiful, clean white sand and ************e on it.. On the way back to the boat, I joined the tour group as we scouted around the pier looking for turtles that had been spotted earlier ...
Koycegiz, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey travellingjenI was really overdue my holidays, finally getting to take it in October and I just signed up to two weeks of not doing much in Turkey with a couple of friends in a group. For me though not doing much isn't my cup of tea so I took every chance to re-live my old Turkey memories, from food, sights, sea, dancing and ahem, yes the men, again :)
Please come back soon as I update all the stories from the two weeks. Thanks.
I hate coming to places that have been ruined by tourism. Marmaris in Turkey is one such place. I have absolutely loved Turkey - fantastic people, interesting cities and some of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The sole exception was Marmaris, which whilst not a bad experience can be used to explain the negative things that happen when an area goes too far into the tourist market place.
So is a touristy area a bad thing? Not ...
... want him! It is him I want!!!”
After awhile they left. And I remained. And for the first time in several years, I felt lonely. Very lonely. “Why can’t I have THAT?”, “Where is mine???”
So I ‘dealt with it’ the way I know to deal with challenges. I meditated, practiced Yoga, breathed into my heart. Kept on training my mind towards being generous, peaceful and humble. To some degree it worked. The anxiousness ...
... around. I got to go in first while Chris and Damien watched, but the guard was too alert for any subterfuge. It wasn't really a problem, as the baths were also a giant waste of money. I barely noticed the warm water, so busy was I dodging swirls of green goo and flaccid pink Germans. We wandered around the ancient ruins and in the early afternoon made our way to the Marmaris peninsula on the south coast.
Marmaris, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey davechrisdamo... definitely fun too. We did eventually make it to the waterfall. The trail was off a dirt road and it was about a 15 minute walk back to the secluded waterfall. There were no other tourists, just a number of local teenagers having a good time and jumping off the rocks near the waterfall. The falls weren't big by any standards, but it was pretty and it was a good swimming hole.
Over at the waterfall itself there were a fair number of fish jumping out of the ...

The Hike
On the return from Megisti, looking up at that ridge above Kas . . . well, it was just an irresitable objective to me. What a view it would be from up there! Furthermore, there looked to be a line straight up cleared of shrubbery almost the whole way!
It didn't turn out that way. Or I didn't locate the bare rock line I sought. I ended up bushwhacking through a lot of scrub. Anything green in the landscape in this part ...

Then it was on to Kas. For a North American (U.S. citizen) to obtain a new 90-day visitor's visa it requires merely crossing the border into another country, turning around and reentering Turkey (with 15 euros). That's it.
The Greek island of Megisti (or Turkish Meis Adasi) is a daily boat run from Kas. It only takes about 30 minutes to make the crossing, and the price this day was 40TL (about US$25.50). The boat docks in the small town of ...
