My last two days in Tenerife

... with my friends on the beach for the last time, have a few well deserved drinks, talk with Avi (from UIowa) about MCAT and premed course work, walk on the most jagged rocks I think I've ever been on, get sunburned on my legs (AGAIN), take some embarrassingly ridiculous selfies, interrupt a game of rugby between Spaniards, and get lost in the beauty of my favorite place in the north of Tenerife. I didn't want to leave the beach, but I really needed to get back home to put on ...

... the entire conversation was in English, and she asked Laura for permission to leave that day. It was her birthday, and her husband had been sleeping in the hospital since the day she arrived (about two weeks--talk about a devoted husband), so she wanted to be able to experience the island and celebrate her day with him. The hike was scheduled to last about 2.5-3 hours, but apparently we were running later than normal, so the bus had to come pick us up about halfway through. It was a pretty tough climb up the mountain, so none of us were against the bus coming to get us. Plus, we got to hang out in this ...

Today we had a really funny patient in internal medicine who I have to talk about here. Her name was Irene, and she didn't speak a lick of Spanish because she's Scottish (though she has lived in Tenerife for upwards of 20 years). She was in the hospital because she had some kind of serious dementia and diabetes. Her dementia caused her to speak very slowly and to occasionally say things that didn't make sense or that were incomprehensible. Her face ...
