Rainy and cold has replaced sunny and warm in France but it has not curbed ambitions... Well, I guess any ambition to exercise has been exhausted but we saw that one coming.

Travel is still high priority. Last week the GEP cohort was treated to a day trip to Mt. Blanc in Chamonix. A three hour bus ride west took us into the steep peaked, deep valley-ed Rhône-Alpes. ... and stopped in the room for a break and to catch up
on the blog. I headed out for a beer on the square and then found an
Italian place highly regarded in the guide books. I sat at the bar
and had a nice meal of bruschetta and a ham and mushroom pizza and a
nice Rhine Reisling to accompany them. Things are quite slow this
time of year and there were only a few people in the restaurant, but
the service was good and the meal was also. Back to the room as I

during my stay!!! Back to the room and then out for dinner at a very
nice restaurant near the town center. A lot of wood and cuckoo
clocks made up the ambiance and I had a nice meal of meat and cheese.
The French dining experience is like no other. In the finer
restaurants, they take the dining experience very seriously and they
turn meals with ordinary ingredients into something very special.
Back to the room to end up a
very full day.

... of wine consumed the night before and a big breakfast, (which was fabulous but I usually don't do them) just put me over the edge and it was literally mid-conversation that it happened.  Luckily we were stopped in traffic at the time.  Unluckily it was next to a family of five with three little tikes in the back seat, who of course stared out the window with amazement at the silly girl throwing up out the window in the little blue car.  The best part is ...

... in a room with 5 girls. We weren't able to go up the mountain on the first day so we checked out chamonix, had a nice lunch (guessing what it was were ordering) and checked out the mer de glace. It is a huge glacier that heads on down into chamonix, we had to get a train up the mountain and the views were great. Once up there we got a gondola and about 300 stairs down the the glacier. ... about cheese. Laragh and Holly had two different kinds of cheese fondu. Gerald and Joe had lambchops with a cheesy potato side. Lynn had a mini casserole of cheese, potato, and bacon. Iain had a meat dish with a cheesy side. And finally, I had the famous raclette, a slab of melted cheese with boiled potatoes, cold cuts, and pickles to garnish it. ... to start, and they kept getting delayed due to fog. Eventually, they were cancelled, which was a bummer because the French were getting really excited about the ordeal. On our way home, we got lost again, on the same bus that I was put on the day before, and took a two hour detour with a bus driver that had a serious affinity for techno music.
