... into Argentina, check out Buenos Aires, Iguacu Falls, and up into the Brazilian jungle. 3) Take a few buses up to the northern Ecuadorian coast, and spend the rest of my time on the beach, riding tubes in the warm Caribbean. I´ve pretty much ruled out the Patagonia option. The beauty of the landscapes will be all but hidden under gray clouds. Plus most of the parks are closed. Ecuador seems like the most tempting option, Jon and I only saw the ...
Pucon, Lake District, Chile mhutto... rain gear, crampos and trouser covers all in clown blue and yellow - we were a sight to behold. After a bus ride we arrived at the bottom to hear thta the cable car which would have taken us a short distance was not working...bad news for some, but at least it meant we had to do the whole climb by ourselves which would intensify our achievement. We waited at the bottom for all to gathered themselves and marvelled up at the rock and snowy mass ...
Pucon, Chile cornflake... they grow very slowly, so anything we have in Victoria would still be considered a very young tree. Angie needs to study up on the difference between men and women pictures on baño doors. Oops! Everybody seems to like Canadians. Go Canada! They also don´t mind if we butcher their language, as long as we try. Good thing! Dogs are not afraid to harass big sea lions.

Sehr lecker!

Pucon, Lake District, Chile feeling_alive... this, it was decreed by the guides that we would have no more than ten minutes at the top, so we got our photos and got out of there. Then came the fun part - having taken two hours or more to negotiate the snowfields trudge by trudge on the way up, we took no more than about 15 minutes to toboggan down them on our *****! After that it was a mere hour or so from the former ski-lift (destroyed by an eruption in the 70s) back to the bus and onwards to ...
Pucon, Lake District, Chile roryd... and we wish we had spent longer there. From Diablo we headed back West to Colonia del Sacramento, a town set up in the 1700´s for smuggling goods into Buenos Aires, which was only a hours boat ride for us from there. The town had so much character, with colonial buildings and cobbled streets and the original light house and port, you could almost see the pirates there!! There were classic cars all over Uruguay , but this was especially so in Colonia, some had just been ...
Pucon, Lake District, Chile damosarah... still loomed far above us. But Oscar knew the mountain well and led us around the side of the volcano on a longer but far less windy route. There, the slopes were very passable. As other groups (now below us) headed down due to the wind, we kept bearing left away from the wind and ever higher towards the summit. I felt good. I felt alive. My body was working hard but I was glad to be there, surrounded by vast views of the Chilean countryside ...
Pucon, Lake District, Chile brunnoc... than Callum could visit, he definitely made up for his lack of Cadburys! The southern countries of South America have really inspired us and we cannot wait for a return trip to experience the beauties of the true south in the Patagonian wilderness. We then looped our way up through the beautiful town of Pucon before heading to Santiago for our flight over to New Zealand, where we are spending Christmas with Pauline's aunt and uncle in the South Island.
Pucon, Lake District, Chile pauline_callum... brightly pepped "Daddy reported from Darfur!" "And your mother?" I asked. "Mummy's climbing the volcano today, but you have to be 12 to do that - so this is all they'd let us do." If these kids are doing this now, I really want to know what sorts of adventures they're doing in their 20s. Next up - the weather finally cleared up, so I'm going to snowboard down the active volcano...
