... Kandy Eagle Backpackers is 'very mountain' and as such they want to charge inflated rates (not that they succeeded with us!) They weren't kidding however! Our place is indeed 'very mountain' we discovered as we climbed up and up and up, snaking for about 4km out of the city. Woke up at 8.30. Started our walk to climb to lovers leap at 9.30. Met Rupa at our hotel and then began walking to lovers leap, asking locals which way to go. Stopped on route for Taelor to buy a backpack. To get to the waterfall we had to trek through a tea plantation and clamber over rocks. I came up with this tasty concoction:

Juice of 1 Sri Lankan mandarin (which are harder to find in the highlands.)
Juice of 1/2 lime
1 or 2 tbsp sugar (to taste)
1 oz white rum
Several ice cubes (yeah right)
Add plain soda water to fill a tall glass

Got a lift into Dambulla from our guest house with our Dutch friends and caught a bus straight away for the two and a half hour journey to Kandy.  Pretty, lush scenery.  The auto rickshaw driver at Kandy station had problems finding our homestay - no name on building and only half built! - accommodation level one completed but second storey (where breakfasts/meals served on request) more like a building site.  We stayed 4 nights in two ...
