... pick up Paul. I was WELL excited. Waiting by the arrivals door felt like a lifetime, but eventually I saw him, rucksack in tow, and I was so grateful to not only have a fellow native English speaker with me, but to be reunited with that ginger beard and the boy that came with it.

We piled back into the tuk tuk that had brought me, and weaved through the windy, bustling streets back to our hotel. After a quick lie down, we popped out to get some food and beers, thinking this would ...

He scribbles, most adeptly, on said pad, rips off the receipt and then expects you ...

Of course, the temple is mobbed with tourists and devotees during puja. One can visit the temple at other times, but we wanted the cultural experience of witnessing the puja ritual. The crowds and lines were a little frustrating, but we ...

... meant 7 hours, departing at 5am, but no seat reservation, and first class wasn't possible (which makes it harder to keep an eye on all 27 of our bags). On the plus side, the whole journey would be about 2 each. Bargain! The alternative was a car and driver, which we hadn't done yet in Sri Lanka and sounded kind of fancy! We were told it would take 3 hours and cost us a whopping 60. That was way beyond our budget, so of course we took the car. :) We decided ...
