... the first had the room number upside down at the bottom of the door and the second room had the number on the inside of the door!!!  That sort of place ... but very friendly owner and wife, quite okay overall and just about the nearest place to town close to the lakeside. Kandy is the 2nd city of Sri Lanka and "majestic Kingdom of the hills" as the welcome sign says at the railway station. It is pleasantly cooler - in the evening at ...

This did not stop a succession of pedlars squeezing through to sell various snacks wrapped in pieces of paper torn from used homework books. So by the time we finished the elephant safari and managed to get all bruised up and battered by riding in the back of the safari truck we were all starving... We stopped at a roadhouse on the way home and bought a roti roll each...these must have had atomic chillies in them as my whole face was burning off....mid way ...

... open plain/basin with a huge lake filling the center. The level of the lake changes dramatically with the seasons and is commonly used by wild Asian elephants as a source of water and place to cool off during the hot afternoons. Initially we only saw just one lone elephant all the way across the lake. Phil and I joked that it was probably a statue planted by park officials because it hardly moved (what better way to ensure every guest sees an elephant...). We were told that this was ...
