... streets of Pinnewala to the river that sets this elephant attraction apart from the rest. We arrived at the orphanage after they had already gone to the river. We paid our entrance fee and watched about 50 elephants in this beautiful river setting. After about two hours the elephants are herded back through town to a huge natural space with a beautiful hilled-jungle-backdrop.

... no point in trying to go to place where the views are spectacular when there is such a thick layer of cloud cover! So... We went and checked out a bunch of waterfalls, tea plantations and basically just did a 4 hour tour through the beautiful hills of Sri Lanka. It was cool... ... 100, calling it danger money. We were soaking wet so had a shower and had the laundry returned to our room, before meeting in the bar. A final hotel booking over a drink before taking a table at the Spice restaurant. The huge guy with the stern attitude that was assisting at the bar followed us to the restaurant. We seem to be spending a lot of time in buses so we slow down in Kandy for two nights' stay instead of just one. Kandy is famous nationwide for its festival held 10 days before the full moon of the month of August, which we just passed. I am sort of glad we didn’t arrive here in the middle of it as it would have been very hard to find accommodation, and the rooms left would have been outrageous. ... showed her shoulders and knees. While I liked this, the people guarding the entrance frowned upon the attire. My knees were covered by my shorts, but the guard was looking at my legs. I may have made it in, but he could have turned me away. We went shopping for "temple" attire. The shop across from the entrance must do some great business in clothing.
