We headed out of town to Achilleion Palace, the retreat for the Empress Elizabeth of Austria. We had learned about her life when we were in Vienna last year. She built this house in Corfu in late 19th century style and decorated it with Gods of Ancient Greece, primarily Achilles for which the palace is named. We arrived in Corfu in quite heavy rain. We had organized a hire car for €43 which was very reasonable, and decided we would continue on with our plans. We drove to Paleokastritsa Bay which would have been beautiful on a nice day with a very rugged coastline and beaches. ... saw behind the stage, dressing rooms, met a dancer, met 2 singers, saw the lighting and sound area and met the 2 technicians. The same group of performers are in the shows each night. They all have contracts for 10 months. Their contracts are staggered and when they finish their replacement embarks. This way there is no large influx of staff emarking/disembarking.
