Well, we're back in Santiago at the end of our fifth week since we left home--and are both experiencing a bit of missing home. A short night here, with a very early flight tomorrow north to Peru where, we hear, they speak slower and with more precision than do the people of Chile. We can only hope . . . .

Once we arrived in Viña Del Mar we had a walk around a park and a big concert venue which hosts the Viña Del Mar festival once a year. The stadium holds 25,000 people, and it is the biggest festival in the Spanish speaking world. We had lunch at a small restaurant overlooking the sea. ... great pride in it as there was so much cleaning going off, this Involved a small boat going round with filters which cleaned the water, it was mesmerising to watch as god knows how long it would take to do the entire thing. ... the San Francisco church we headed to the meat and fish market which has stalls around the outside and small restaurants in the centre. We all had seafood of varying sorts and it was all delicious though far more expensive than our fish the day before.
