It's also that many stones were carried away from the site to the nearby villagers' homes and used as border stones to mark their yards. There is now an order to halt any more buildings and they are expecting to move outside of the archaeologically-significant area.

After I visited the Uzuncaburc (Imbriogon), I then drove another 10 km to reach Olba. The story is that Imbriogon king determined to spawn off and set up another small kingdom and that's Olba, which came a bit later. When we had our fill of castles and ruins, we took a hike down the Chasm of Heaven, an underground cavern where Zeus allegedly captured the hundred headed monster Typhon. Nearby is the cave gorge, named the Pit of Hell, where Zeus imprisoned the monster.
