... hadn't seen this part of my family for 8.5 years! Their house is amazing too- and the view of the train and the mountains- wow! We had an amazing dinner of parmigiano aubergine made by Ilaria and then tried all sorts of cheeses and looked at photos from when they were last in NZ when I was 11 months old! Such lovely photos. Friday morning after a beautiful breakfast, Dario (my Great Uncle), picked us up and took us back to his house ...

Yesterday (Friday 9th Jan) we had another amazing breakfast - this time with Roberto and Ilaria. We spent the day with Ilaria's brother Dario and his wife Anita. While we were waiting outside to be picked up by Dario, we were saw the local baker who drives around beeping his horn and sells breads and pastries from his van. Roberto bought us a custard pastry which was delicious! We were laughing saying that it was Switzerland's equivalent of Mr Whippy. ...

Didn't feel like Xmas when we woke up...no presents, no grandchildren to spoil...but after having a nice breakfast, the day took off!! Hopped on the Bernina Express for a train ride through the alps...stunning scenery...snow everywhere, mountains, glaciers, lakes. We had the windows down in the carriage (even though it was freezing) and were jumping from side to side taking heaps of photos. Caught our bus back to St Moritz where we walked the ...

Left Zurich this morning & headed to Lucerne...city by the lake overlooked by Mt Pilatus. Very picturesque city...went for a boat cruise around the lake, followed by walking the streets for a couple of hours. Walked across the famous Chapel bridge. 4 hr bus ride to St Moritz...the last hour climbing up the mountains. Snow at last!! Arrived after dark...can't wait to see what it looks like in daylight. Went and tried to build a snowman at 10pm...snow was too ...

... in the town again we looked for a place for dinner. All very expensive in St Moritz so we found a pub which was reasonable and had a nice dinner before walking home admiring the pretty street lights. Heading for Zermatt tomorrow with another scenic train ride - bit hard to take really. Hope it is not too hot in Perth!! Just checked -4 here at the moment. Funny thing is it is cold but not ...
