Historical Traveler Reviews of Club Hotel Florence

Every bit as bad

from A TripAdvisor Member
I read the negative reviews about the Hotel Club but wasn not convinced until I checked in. Our room was smelly. The showerhead was placed so close to the bath that standing for a shower was impossible. When I asked for a change of room I was given a key to another room and told to check it out. I took one step into the room and fell flat on my face. There was an unsigned step down at the doorway. After getting nearby hotel staff to help me I returned to the lobby where my fall was confirmed by those who helped. I was given a key to "our best available room". It was also smelly and had a disgracefully small bathroom. If the Hotel Club is your only option in Florence = stay somewhere else.

Great location but thats all

from excited05
when arriving to the hotel you think this is quiet pleasant it looks ok good location close to train stops and buses and walking distance to the dome about 15mins but once you get past reception that is where it goes down hill. The staff are quiet rude alot of hostility did not feel welcome by any means, once you start heading to the hotel rooms you come along to the lift if you could call it that more like a shoebox. The whole place had a dirty, dingy feel about it. Brakfast wasn't even worth going to and the rooms were spacious but the bed my husband got(we got 2 single beds joined together)was almost touching the floor once he got in it. If you had too many electrical things on would keep blowing the fuse and the airconditing/vents did not work. Like I said great location but thats all but for the money we paid it did the job we only slept in the room and thats all.

Dont go

from HARAREMAN
This Hotel looks good from the outside. However once inside you only have to meet the most unfriendly Receptionist to know whats this Hotel is all about. On arrival we yes as guests were told off for arriving late due to an Italian Transport strike. Our flight was actually diverted to Bologna so had to get a train to Florence. So after a long journey to be told off for a room you are paying for is simply unbeleivable. They defeintely treat guests badly thinking they can get away with it as so many tourists need a place to stay in Florence. The lift is tiny and could take two people with a squeeze. The beds were made in the room but that where it ends. The floors were filthy. Ours was full of glitter so had not been cleaned. If they had a hoover I would have cleaned it myself. The bed made a V shape as if a million people had slept in it in the same place. I almost vanished sleeping in it. Our trip switch for the electricty tripped if more then two lights were on at a time. They dont mention they are situated next to the local Buss station or that you can hear every train announcement from the railway station opposite. Or that the walls are paper thin. We Could hear our neighbours breathing whilst they slept. The one side of the building has no windows and this make the corredors feel claustrophobic.

Breakfast is served in a tiny area downstairs and though the food seems ok the coffee is defintely foul.

I think Prison would be a beter stay. I stayed in a Hotel called STARHOTEL which are a chain in Italy. They are clean and courteous and good to stay in and reasonable. So if you go to Italy avoid The Club Hotel they must learn that courtesy kindness and hospitality dont cost nothing. Avoid this place like the plague there are beter places to stay in

Great location, but ...!

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Hotel Club's location, very near the main train station and a short walk from the Duomo, is very convenient, and that's where the good news stops. Our bathroom light didn't work, nor did the TV, and the shower area included the toilet, so it got soaked when you showered. Any decent RV these days would have better bathroom facilities. The big problem was that the front desk staff did nothing to correct the TV or bathroom light problems for the three days we were there, in spite of daily reminders. We placed a table lamp on the floor in the bathroom and toughed it out without a TV. With no such problems and a friendly, helpful staff, this would be a nice 3-star hotel. Unfortunately, these conditions don't exist, and we'd certainly not stay there again. Oh, and they're ripping up the street out front, which makes things very dusty and noisy during the day (this will likely be completed by the end of November, 2005)

Stay somewhere else

from A TripAdvisor Member
I'm sorry, but the place was a dive. I also got bed bugs. The room we stayed in stunk of smoke.

They also did not initially charge us the website rate. We had to argue to get the amount on the website. So check your bill if you do it this way.

The location would be its only benefit.

Shabby, but quite well located

from lolly-UK
This hotel calls itself a 3* hotel, but the rooms are very much of a 2* standard. They were kept clean, but were still slightly shabby. The decor of the rooms is also quite old. Very busy florals with cheap fabrics.

The bathroom was quite new, but the shower still only worked at about half power. We also discovered that you can only get hot water if you have your shower before 7am or after 11am or so. Between these times, it was always cold.

The location near the train station certainly is a bonus if you are planning on travelling throughout Tuscany. There are better located hotels though. That said, Florence isn't a big city at all, so you can walk to all the sights from here with relative ease.

I'd only recommend this hotel if you are willing to stay in a 2* hotel, and if you manage to get a cheap rate. Otherwise, keep looking. You'll find better.

Florence is too beautiful to worry too much about a room

from MyLSD
Out of the three hotels in the three different cities that we stayed in in Italy, this one was by far, the better of them all.

The room was so spacious - a rarity for hotel rooms in Europe.

It wasn't as clean as I'd like, but I have seen worse in my european traveling experiences.

The bathroom shower was a bit unique - there was only a curtain separating it from the toilet. ???

It was also thankfully equipped with a little mini fridge - also another rarity in European hotels.

For the price, the room was pretty decent, staff was friendly, and the location was ideal - a block from the train station. Everything was pretty much in walking distance. It only took us less than 10 minutes to head over to San Lorenzo and the Duomo, etc. The Academia where David resides was also about 15 mins walking distance.

I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends.

Grubby, run-down, noisy.

from A TripAdvisor Member
This was a grubby, run-down, noisy hotel. Whilst the staff were perfectly pleasant, the hotel was anything but - the room had a cracked sink and the shower smelled. The decor must have last been done in the 1980s and not renewed since. The air conditioning didnt appear to work but it didnt feel safe to sleep with the window open, so the choice was suffocating heat or no security. There were people shouting, banging on doors and running up and down the corridor half the time. The paint in the room was cracked and peeling and the (formica) furniture was chipped. The bed-linen and towels were clean however. The hotel is right beside the bus station and about 50 yards from the train station, but even that convenience wouldnt convince us to stay there again. Pay the extra euro and stay somewhere else.

Club de la gare problems

from INSTANT
This hotel is central and typical of many 3* City Hotels. Beds were clean but the bathroom let things down, water ran out of shower into bedroom causing a bad damp smell when windows had been shut.

Beware, the two small steps down into the hotel reception my mother missed the steps and now has her leg in plaster for 6 weeks having broken her ankle.

Great location

from MAPocchia
First to write this review. Stayed in June 2004. Only a block from the train station. Very convenient to everything. Staff accomodating and friendly. Good breakfast, nice room and very nice bathroom. I would definitely stay here again.
