Day 53
Not much to say today. I was pretty lazy for some reason and did not leave the hotel until 11am. Someone else had borrowed the hotel bicycle so I had to get the local bus out to Anemurium ('place of the winds') to see the ancient ruins built by the Byzantines. The city was founded in the 1st century AD but hit hard by an earthquake around 580.
Since it was 110 km / 3 hour ...

Alanya, Antalya, Turkey stephanberlin... there is about six hectares each and a supply of sea water and fresh water that is unlimited, it rains. When it rains, holidays are just a few letters different from horror days. Fortunately Tanja talked down the price of a room from 80 dollars to 20 Euro, so we are dry tonight, albeit a bit cold. The heater in the room runs overtime now, it has to heat some 40 metres cubed of concrete from 11 to a comfortable 20plus centigrade. We are coming out of Africa, you know.
Alanya, Turkish Mediterranean Coast, Turkey robertandtanjaNovember 9, 2007 Fethiye, Turkey We are staying at the Yacht Plaza Hotel here in the Mediterranean resort town of Fethiye. It's a beautiful place with a picturesque harbor. The hotel is listed as a three star and we are given one of the best rooms on a corner of the building so we have two balconies overlooking the harbor. At the docks below the sailing yachts are tied off and covered for the winter; nearly gunnel to gunnel all down the shore line. If it were only August or even ...
Fethiye, Turkey yoni... were huge drops on these narrow parts where they had piled up sand to do the road at a later date. Damo's expert driving got us through and once we arrived in Alanya it was off for some drinks (only 2 each as $8 for a beer) before crashing at 2am. As it is really just a drinking place we didn't take any photos of Alanya. Alanya is a haven for Germans and Scandinavians ...
Alanya, Antalya, Turkey kazanddamo... some of them have numerous connected arches intact, even after millennia. Eventually I wound up all the way up at the Oymapinar reservoir, and looking down from near the dam there, I had a pretty good view of at least part of the river valley. After hanging around the reervoir for a while, it was time to head back down the valley and eventually wind up in Side, which boasts a seriously large amount ...

Salcuk, Turkey ants... I should be ticking things off some imaginary list that I compile which invariably involve hiking or scrambling (definetely an expenditure of effort is required) to see some off the beaten track sight or ruin. But Ill console myself by saying that this sort of a day is necessary to act as a buffer zone every now and again - and by going to visit Termessos - which is some ancient ruins of the beaten track tommorow! Ok so another rest day for TIPO. Cheers Wadirunner.
