Bodrum Peninsula, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey ronamaltz... Kings tombs carved into the cliff face walls before reaching turtle beach... Unfortunately we were too late in the season to see the females come up and lay their eggs or the hatchlings - but the beach was beautiful, clean white sand and ************e on it.. On the way back to the boat, I joined the tour group as we scouted around the pier looking for turtles that had been spotted earlier ...
Koycegiz, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey travellingjenI was really overdue my holidays, finally getting to take it in October and I just signed up to two weeks of not doing much in Turkey with a couple of friends in a group. For me though not doing much isn't my cup of tea so I took every chance to re-live my old Turkey memories, from food, sights, sea, dancing and ahem, yes the men, again :)
Please come back soon as I update all the stories from the two weeks. Thanks.
I hate coming to places that have been ruined by tourism. Marmaris in Turkey is one such place. I have absolutely loved Turkey - fantastic people, interesting cities and some of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The sole exception was Marmaris, which whilst not a bad experience can be used to explain the negative things that happen when an area goes too far into the tourist market place.
So is a touristy area a bad thing? Not ...
Awoke near Pamukkale and paid a scandalous amount to get in. 10 pounds each to see some tepid pools of water. Even the initially striking karstic rock was pretty much covered in faint brown footprints. The extorsion didn't end there as it turned out that Cleopatra's Baths, the hot spring at the top was an additional cost. We thought we could get away with just paying for one of us to get in and then swapping the ...

I of course told Jess and Phoenix about the fish...only to have roughly 45 seconds pass without a single fish jumping... yeah, it was a tense time, hoping these two people I'd just met didn't think I was out of my mind...but thankfully a fish oblidged and jumped...Saved!
With the help of sxome Turkish youth I climbed up above the waterfall for a good 2 to 2 and a half meter jump (not very high) into the falls. The climb up was worse than the ...
... or travel agents. I noticed that many of the travelers got different prices for this trip. - It seems that they liked us !!?
This time we did not choose a speed ferry. We thought it is not worth it since the weather is good, no wind and we want to enjoy most of the trip on board. Besides it is so nice getting a seat up the deck and enjoy the sun and the fresh sea breeze covering our whole body!
With just 39 euro the two of us, can visit a ...
... otogar at Yatagan, not sufficiently checking my resources to see that I should have taken a dolmus to the village near-by. (The particular guide book for these two sites assumes one to be driving, not taking a dolmus or walking. So, in walking out of town my first intention was to take a picture of one of the not-so-pretty places I walk: a roadside with billboards. This is the first, cropped, picture you see.
It wasn't until I got my ...
... the Lycian Way, itself, would continue in an east direction, for on a previous visit to Kas I had hiked the segment east of Kas. I didn't realize that I was actually at the segment end of the trail coming to Kas from the west.
As a consequence, I bushwhacked through the loose rock and thorn bushes, only to rejoin the trail near the top. I thought that was ironic.
The other irony was that I had bought the Lycian Way guide book the day before but hadn't gotten around ...
... intent on helping us get to our somewhat unknown destination. They even went so far as to have the bus get off the highway and drive down a side street to drop us off. After 10 minutes of fumbling around the vacation home compound, trying to figure out where the heck we were and where we were trying to go, the off the beaten path place they had dropped us was not the right place. But not to worry, this has a happy ending. We happened upon ...
