Samaná Peninsula, Samaná Peninsula, Dominican Republic jayrbirdNow we are in Samana. A place everyone said would be ok for a night but we´ve loved it. Just a beautiful, relaxed seaside town. We´ve changed hotels but both are cheap but comfortable except the one we´re in now is extremely noisy. Especially in the mornings. We have loved having dinners as the sun sets here and either going out for the day or just relaxing at the waterfront. Had to go meet ...
Samaná Peninsula, Dominican Republic couplakiwis... is still raining and we've been out exploring this afternoon, we decide to eat that the hotel restaurant, and are delighted by the decision. After dinner we stroll to a nearby Plaza de Hispanidad to check out the nightlife. There is a stage set up and music playing through the speaker system, but the recent showers have discouraged people from coming out to dance. We'll see how crowded it is tomorrow night. Oh, and did I mention that the people are beautiful? Hugs, Dan
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic wareameye... evening. It was pretty entertaining and good to spend the day with friends, as opposed to sitting alone in my campo on a holiday that they don't celebrate in the DR! It was a little hectic trying to take ticket money, deal with the caterers, etc, but it was fun and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Yesterday was our annual all-volunteer conference in Santo Domingo and today I am getting a few things done before heading back to the campo. Things in ...
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic margaretkirlin... that PC will make us gather in a central location due to national disasters or political upheaval and stay there until notified that we can return to our sites. We hung around until Friday when we would know for sure as I suffered many "This Gringa is crazy" look when I told the townfolk that I would have to head for safety at the impending storm. Yes, it seems that Dominicans are more skillful at the art of meteorology than most CNN experts, but I was ...
San Francisco de Marcoris, Dominican Republic lisalew... my Spanish, that I forget that I´m in front of people! On Wednesday, we went to an absolutely gorgeous beach in Miches. I couldn´t have asked for anything more beautiful. Blue green water, palm trees, hammocks, music, and pretty much no one else there. It was so so great. I heard South Dakota got snow, so I´m really sorry to be writing about this now! Last night our host families ...
Sabana de la Mar, Dominican Republic kelsianne82... beautiful Domincan beaches. By entire family, I´m not exaggerating, we had 15 people in a 7 seater suburban, the grandma, great grandma, all the babies...it was crazy. But we got to the beach, which was about an hour away from the city. We went to one a little farther away ´cause it´s nicer. The beach was gorgeous, and we just spend the day swimming, laying out...Jen and I were the only people laying out ´cause we ...
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic kelsianne82Dear dedicated readers...I thought I would start off that way to provide some sort of remedy for the monotony of each posting. However, the body shall remain full of the same purpose: to inform you of the goings on of my Peace Corps life. Can you tell I have been reading a lot of Charlotte Bronte lately? So we´ll begin with the problems of the ever-antagonistic ¨machismo¨ that exists in the country where I dwell. I had found that even with a new Dominican boyfriend ...
Pimentel, Dominican Republic lisalewI just realized that the title of this blog entry would be a great name for a band! So the adventure continues. Though I cant say that it has been too much of an adventure lately since the tropical storms they warned us about and are always on the news have definitely struck. I think it rained for an entire week with no stop in site...but when it finally did stop, I was wishing it would come back because of the horrible humid heat that followed. We ...
