I spent the next two days engaged in about the closest thing to a beach vacation I'd spend in the Dominican Republic with two daytrips from Samana town to other parts of the Peninsula. On Sa*************ed northeast to Las Galeras, a sleepy beach town near its northeastern corner. A short distance away lies Playa Rincon, said to be one of the two or three most beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic. Playa Rincon is certainly quite remote and ...

The hundred mile drive north across the country from near
Santo Domingo to the western end of the Samana Peninsula was on a pretty good
new toll road, only one lane in each direction but little traffic and skirting

It was very quiet and relaxing, almost urging me to stay put. I did take a day trip to Las Terrenas, another day trip to El Limon waterfalls, another day trip to Playa de la Valle, I spent another day at Playa Rincon and generally just chilled out! Exercise in the ...

... as we had purchased a tour. The tour was called "Cultural Highlights of Samana."

The documents warned of a long tender ride, pollution and poverty. I didn't think the tender was that long, taking only about 15 minutes. The other two were dead on. When we got off the tender on to the Samana dock the pollution stared us in the face. The water in the bay is filthy. There is no other word to describe it. The clarity was maybe a foot, and garbage floated ...
