    ... was so big and rich that it had a free beach boat service that ran up the river to the path which was like 30 metres from the beach, crazy rich and ideal for lazy people) but I wanted to walk to the beach, so did my New Zealand friend Hamish, so we walked together to the beach, the walking path was only like 2.5 KM and a real nice path, so we both enjoyed it and were there soon.     ... That night was the much awaited expedition to the Chimeara or as commonly known, the flames of Olympus. Homer, in his Iliad and Odyssey spoke about the Chimeara all those hundreds of years ago. The 6 of us donned our hiking boots, (except for me in my slipslops) attached our "kopligte" and headed for the trek up the mountain!!! Jeez, I wont lie, it was QUITE a climb!!! After huffing and puffing for over an hour we finally made it. What an amazing phenomena to see these ...

    ... was hard enough over the very uneven rocky path. (Not much in the way of a decent photo though!) Today we wandered through the ruins of Olympos...one of many sites that go by the name! It was fabulous, close to the beach and a stream...the ruins were scattered through thick forest and in many places overgrown. Cirali is a small coastal town, but it has it's fair share of pensions, hotels and cafes. Lots of families wandering about...a great place to relax for a few ...

    The concept of bypassing towns has not caught on much in Turkey and every settlement is a series of traffic lights that slow down the journey hugely.



    Many of the lights have a countdown timer showing how many seconds to the next change. Most Turkish drivers treat this as an opportunity to practice their Formula 1 starts, and many would incur time penalties ...
