Many tourists looking down the crater as we do, few follow a guided tour cicling the whole monster. We add another hike downhills. Some spots have little or no vegetation yet. You see the structure of the lava flows. We meet some mushroom collectors. I collect some Vesuvuis gravel I plan to make art with back home. Heavy stuff - I guess it contains quite some share of iron.

The road to the Sorrento peninsular is a narrow single lane road with a huge amount of traffic using it, we hadn’t booked accommodation and really had no idea where we were going. ... br> It has certainly been nice not to worry about making it to the museums on time or having to stand in line at a particular tourist attraction. Even Sorrento was very touristy! I believe I picked a great spot here in Sant Agnello because it is very quiet. I am going to head up to the deck and read my book, maybe write more tonight.
