November in Trowbridge

I think I ended up back in Trowbridge at the best time of the year... lol What with Halloween and Guy Fawkes night!!

I was a little exhausted when I got back. I think I was happy to be somewhere where I didn't have to literally live out of my suitcase!

While I was back, I opened a bank account and also applied for my national insurance number so I can work in the UK. It was a fairly short process because I have a British passport! I've applied ...

Reminds me a lot of Southampton.. with a Pier! lol

... and lots of families.

I did some shopping, always a good pick me up!! And took a long walk along the boardwalk.. all the beaches are quite nice around this area, they actually have sand BUT the water is freezing and no waves!!

The pier was interesting.. its quite an old structure and the pictures from the last century were amazing, everyone walking along in their suits and long ...

Thanks for your hospitality Deidre and John

... it was a lovely evening, more cider if I remember rightly. I found out about what my brother Phil got up to while he was staying with them back in 1987!!! Apparently spunky is a rude word for something else in England!! And he frightened poor Frank one night by sliding his car across the gravel out the front of one of the pubs!!!
I definitely have to go back to the New Forest.. if not for the great people but the great outdoor life you can live there.

Lovely wet ole town!

... instead.. lol. I still can't get over that they don't have huge shopping centres, everyone still has to walk between shops in the wet!

While I was there I had to work out how I was going to get from the railway to the catch the bus to the New Forest. My next port of call!

Southampton is also famous, well in the olden days ...

Surprising Stonehenge

... for centuries, and its hard to believe that you could once chip off parts of the icons as a souvenir! The stories surrounding this icon have been quite outrageous, although the mystery of how or why the builders set this up as a kind of solar time clock is still amazing.

At last, we had an attraction that we could visit and not feel that we did not have enough time!
Salisbury

... Tommy.

Castles in the South of England

... England, Northern Ireland and Wales and about half of them are open this time of year (all between April and October). All but one of the sites I saw when I was in England before was an NT site. The other reason why I picked Bodiam Castle is because of the layout and design of the castle. It is what one might expect a castle to be, a wide moat, four towers and thick walls around a 'house.' It should be very interesting to see, hopefully the weather is not dreadful ...

A Darn Good Salisbury Steak

... where the wood used to be.) The rest of the trip round the ye old Salisbury was spent at the big olde cathedral, which was indeed as described, but just like so many others in Europe. Trust me, I'm not putting it down, I actually rather enjoy them all, but I won't bore you with the details (Quick survey, do I sound cool or stupid if I start saying 'deets' as opposed to details? I know what you're thinking, but despite that, the answer is actually cool. Go figure.) The rest ...

Seeing Salisbury and Stonehenge

... enjoying the views of the cows and sheep on the beautiful English countryside, we arrived in the old town of Salisbury, home of the famous Salisbury cathedral. The town is beautiful and quaint with creeks and mallards and whitewashed row houses and lots of gardens. Our tour guide took us through and explained the history, finally ending up at the famous cathedral. This is the highest cathedral spire in England and was, for a long time, the tallest in all of ...
