Cliff Bay Resort Hotel Funchal

There simply aren't enough superlatives in the English language to praise this hotel sufficiently well !!

My wife and I sayed at the Cliff Bay in late March 2004. She still reminds me that, after a few days, I said that I couldn't find a single thing to complain about. The room was wonderful with superb views of both the sea and the beautifully maintained hotel garden. The public areas were immaculate, the swimming pools were spotless, the sun terraces (sun beds and towels on demand) were spacious and clean enough to eat from!! All the staff were pleasant, cheerful and extremely helpful. The hotel is right next to Reids and just a comfortable walk from the centre of Funchal - about 20 minutes.

We had booked B&B only, but having sampled the dinner buffet on the first night we knew that we couldn't better the quality of food elsewhere. It was excellent.

A word of warning though - if you take afternoon tea on the terrace, don't plan to eat again that day, it's a physical impossibilty!! (But you must try it.)

I would unreservedly recommend this hotel and would happily return there.

Have just made our first visit to Maderia,and returned from The Cliff Bay Hotel 5star luxury, having travelled throughout the world the standards at this hotel is second to none.

Staff were excellent,rooms spotless,pools and grounds imaculate,very nice ambiance

everybody we spoke to seemed to have been before,which speaks for itself.

This must be one of the top hotels on the island,and anybody wanting a relaxing break should book now.

My wife and I stayed at the Cliff Bay Hotel Jan 2004. Everything was first class so much so we have booked for this January 2005 for two weeks ,nothing was too much trouble. A wonderful five star hotel.

Although I did enjoy facilities, decor and spa (excellent) at Cliff Bay Hotel, Funchal, Madeira, as a single traveller, I cannot recommend this hotel to other single travellers.

The majority of guests are quiet couples over 50, many on return visits.

As a single traveller, I was on several occasions overlooked by waiting staff in the main restaurant when drinks orders were being taken. This was disconcerting for even an experienced traveller like myself.

Madeira as a destination is best suited to older couples/ prospective timeshare buyers, or perhaps hillwalkers who may enjoy levada walking, in the rugged and hilly terrain.

My wife and I have just returned from our first visit to Madeira staying at the Cliff Bay Hotel in Funchal. The Hotel, its fantastic location, standards of service and personal attention are exemplary. Overlooking the Ocean and the Bay and Port area the Hotel offers first class standards - the rooms are well appointed and large; the dining facilities - three restaurants cater for all tastes and the leisure and health facilities are superb. The staff are extremey helpful and very friendly nothing is too much trouble. If we return to Madeira we shall certainly stay at the Cliff Bay Hotel - we could not fault it - Well worthy of its 5* rating.

We have been 5 times at the Cliff and it was always the best hotel around, good rooms, very good service, nice staff, carefull. etc. Atmosphere is relaxing, clients majority from England, frequentations is mainly aged 50+ So that it is very quiet and polite. And the view on the port is great day and night, and you can walk to the center, no need for taxi or bus. We go again to the Cliff next Thursday.

This is the most fantastic hotel ever. Been there two years in a row and plan to go back this year. The service is second to none as is the location, accommodation and facilities. You will be treated as individuals and made to feel welcome by all staff. By far the best hotel ever.

We spent our honeymoon at the Cliff Bay, which was a wonderful experience. The room was lovely, dinner can be delivered to the room and served on the balcony!! Loved the intimate dining room where we danced the night away to some smootchy musical entertainment... Oh so much to chose from, swimming in the outdoor pool or indoor ... little interesting terraces to hide away and catch the sun. Just along from the hotel is a superb coffee shop that do wicked cakes !! worth a visit.Downside was the self-service restuarant, but then you don't have to use it if you don't want to... the choice is yours!Certainly will return.

My Wife and I had the pleasure of a week at the Cliff Bay Hotel and what a week! The room was excellent, overlooking the sea and with large veranda. The whole hotel was spotlessly clean, the food sevred in the three resturants was well prepared on the whole and a great variety.

Three very good pools and an outstanding spa facility with a wide variety of treatments. The decor in and around the hotel was impressive and floral art spectacular.

Just don't leave the hotel, found the locals in Funchal very uninterested and offhand.

We had a wonderful stay at this excellent hotel with subleme service.

If you like a stay to rest and enjoy wonderful weather and a nice island, go to Cliff bay.
