It`s the day before the long awaited trip to the USA. The packing is complete. Martin and Sheila are starting the holiday early as they have tickets for Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons at the NEC so Chris and Gill will meet them at the airport tomorrow to check in at 6.30am. Our flight departs at 9.00am for Newark where we have about 4 hours to kill before flying onto Las Vegas.

After a an early start, (2:30 am), I went to Birmingham Airport for a KLM flight to Amsterdam. There was a 2 hour stopover before the next flight was to Johannesburg which took 10 and a half hours, arriving at 9.15pm. I stopped at a hotel close to the airport, as there are no flights out of Johannesburg at this time of night. My journey will continue tomorrow. ...

Stephen, mum and I decided to go visit Shakespeare for the day while Judy stayed and visited with her sister. A very pretty old village obviously today designed for tourists and there are a lot of us people with cameras round our neck. It was lunch time by the time we arrived so stopped for a muffin and cuppa before trying to find Shakespeare's house. We went to the Birmingham Museum and had the luck to be here for the start of the exhibition of the Staffordshire Hoard. This is a collection of over 4,000 gold and silver artifacts that dates back to 650 AD. It was found initially by a metal detector owner in July of 2009.
