    ... and soybeans that had not been harvested. This seemed to be a travesty to us until we inquired of Tammy's brother in Kansas. He explained that these were feed crops for livestock and that the drier the corn and soybeans, the higher the prices obtained by the farmers. We felt much better after that.

    Rode NW from Portland this morning for 60 miles to catch up with an old friend of Willy's. Had lunch at Camp 18 - a restaurant out in the middle of nowhere. All built from Douglas Fir milled at the local Mill.. What a fantastic place....     ... day by stopping at the Tillamook Cheese Factory for a tour and for some cheese and an ice cream cone. They have some very cute mini VW style vehicles for marketing their products.
