Then I realized...we were walking through an outdoor public toilet! With agile steps we made it and on the way back crossed to the other side of the street. When I had Jim's wedding band engraved "Whither thou goest I will go" I had no idea where that would lead me!<br>

Bhopal

... just the peacefulness of the ruins was worth the trip. We really enjoyed our time here, and had a lot of fun talking to the local sightseers as well. Following our friend Chris's advice, we went to the Bharat Bhavan to admire some modern art. They had international exhibits and Indian ones as well. Not what I would have expected in Central India, and all in all a nice change of pace!

Heading back

... among the drivers, quite funny really. We left our luggage at the railway station and set off on foot to see Bhopal. Walking in Bhopal is the same pointless exercise that it is in just about every other Indian city. Closed on Mondays

... and even a British Library with the English newspapers (closed mondays). Eventually we visited the lake and enjoyed a stroll along the banks. The man-made lake here is actually quite beautiful and there were lots of local people taking relaxing walks or going boating here. I can't say that Bhopal is a friendly place but they have a reason to mistrust foreigners here. This is, understandably, not a happy town and we felt some relief when we boarded our train to leave.
