They have the one small cottage where he was born, and where by the age of 9, both of this parents had died and left him and his two siblings orphans. He was in the first graduating class from Stanford. He is a degreed geologist, who went ...

The Amana Furniture and Clock factory was one of my favorite stops. The quality of craftsmanship is very evident and we watched several men working on furniture from a viewing ...

Our destination is Amana Colonies in Amana, IA. This is an historic German town that we stopped briefly on our trip to Alaska in 2012. The town closes up at 5:00 pm so we decided to come back and stay a few nights to check it out. More tomorrow on our venture into town.

I have included a short video of what we see as we head down the road. Enjoy.

We enjoyed our stay here, although the days were hot, humid and lazy, but quietly relaxing. One of my favorite pastimes was watching Fox try to catch a ground squirrel. Just like the corn fields, where ever you look, you see these little varmints. The holes to their burrows are everywhere, about the size of a golf ball and hidden in the grass. ...

... very accommodating and Fox got the whole fluff and puff treatment.

On our way back to Amana, we came to some unscientific, but obvious conclusions. Nine out of ten vehicles we passed were pickup trucks. Two out of five roads we drove on were unpaved and dusty.

No matter where you look, there's a corn field.

Bye for now and stay ...
