Hello From Dublin...

Hi to all....I have arrived safe and sound in Dublin, Ireland....Travels were uneventful but long and made for a weary traveller last night..After being in transit for nearly 24 hours I got myself checked into my hotel, slept for a few hours, went out for a walk, some dinner and then came back for a good night's sleep.

The hotel is great, modern, bright and right on the north bank of the Liffey river. I have a small balcony which overlooks the river and the city centre on the...

Guiness...and Cohen...and Fans...

Hi to All...Friday early aftenoon here...A great day yesterday spent walking the streets of Dublin (getting lost only once)...Nice weather again, only a few showers...

Highlight of day included the tour of the Guiness Brewery and Storehouse....Who knew that beer brewing could be so interesting?

Great tour of the brewery which concludes at a place called the Gravity Bar where a free pint is part of the paid admission...The Bar overlooks the entire city, quite a view....but I wa...

A Day of Rest...

Hi to all....Using this day for what it was intended, a day of rest.....Slept late after an epic show last night and then took my time and meandered through the streets for a nice relaxing day

Will kick back here at the hotel before winding it up again for 1 last show in Dublin....How was Saturday's show compared to Friday?

(If you're bored with hearing about U2 you may want to skip the next paragraphs).

Friday's show was amazing, I and many other fans said they couldn...

I Did It!

Hello from Dublin....Just back from the show (and post show pints)....Well, I did it...4 concerts in 5 nights....If I'm as tired as I am right now, how do these performers go on the road and do these shows night after night with so much energy and conviction....amazing.

Today was the sunniest and warmest day of my visit, not a drop of rain. After a great day wandering through the Georgian District of Old Dublin, Merrion Square and St. Stephen's Green it was back to the hotel, a quick c...

Last Day...Final Impressions...Homeward Bound

Hi to all....My last day, my last blog...No walk to and from Croke Park tonight, a last 'real' Guiness and then it's airport time....

Today was overcast and drizzly all day....Still spent the day walking though...Started out at St.Patrick's Cathedral, headed back through the city centre and then spent the better part of afternoon on the north side of the Liffey with the locals.

St. Patrick's Cathedral was beautiful...Medieval era cathedral with foundations back to 600-800 CE.......

Historical Traveler Reviews of Clarion Ifsc Dublin

Best of the 2-week trip

from Sierrajeff
Over a 2 week trip through Ireland and London, the Clarion IFSC came out the best. Modern, with solid construction and (thank you!) air-conditioning; clean and quiet; friendly staff.

We were a party of 3 and were accommodated in a 2-room (plus *large* bathroom) suite. Though we were at the back of the hotel we had decent views, and a large balcony (with table and chairs). Location-wise you are a few blocks from the start of the tourist areas, but in exchane you do *not* get the street noise (pedestrian and auto) that you would get in Temple Bar, O'Connel Street, etc. Also, if you want to travel on a budget there is a small supermarket and a couple convenience stores nearby, so you can buy fruit & veg and not eat out every meal.

An Ordinary Hotel

from Brumscot
Rooms on small side but clean with a very comfortable bed. A bit of a shock was the room service menu after 11 p.m. allthat is on offer is cold sandwiches, nice though, or soup. Having experienced some of Dublin's hospitality we were in need of something more substantial. We were not looking for a three course meal but I would have thought a range of hot snacks would have been in order.

The leisure facilities were somewhat limited with what may well be Dublin's smallest jacuzzi. No loungers around poolside. A bit more attention to detail and this hotel could be so much better.

Excellent choice

Thanks to expedia I got a good rate on the Clarion - asked for a corner room on arrival as one of tripadvisor reveiws said it was a good room - and the receptionist gave me top floor, corner room - hugh balcony over looking the liffy - excellent suite, the kids 12 & 9 loved the clean well supervised swimming pool. The hotel is a must stay in - I have stayed in the Fitzwilliam before - but much prefered this. Well worth a visit.2 down sides - breakfast is 20 euro - a bit pricey - but if your a big eater it is value for money as it is a buffet. We ate at Milano's beside the hotel and it was not worth the 70euros. But I suppose you live & learn - be advised!!!Thanks tripadvisor - and all the reviews - I would'nt book any where without reading your advice first and so far it's been spot on.

Relaxing location in Dublin

from aufinch
Just returned from 4 nights at the Clarion. Having stayed in Dublin on 3 other occassions in the O'Connell Street area, we were pleasantly rewarded with relaxed, more stylish accommodations. The hotel is located well east of the hustle and bustle of the city centre along the quay on the north side of the river. If you like the excitement of tourists and shoppers crowding about - don't stay here! This hotel is in a quiet, newly renovated (and renovating) area of mostly banking and other businesses. Lots of lovely little restaurants in the area to explore, but no shops. Close to the main bus station and Connolly train station (5 min walk). Very helpful front desk and lovely buffet breakfast. Our top floor, corner room was wonderfully spacious. The bathroom, with its marble and separate tub and shower - was bigger than some of the hotel rooms we've had in the past. We will return to the Clarion on a future Dublin visit. Though we sometimes missed immersing ourselves in the crowds of O'Connell and Grafton streets, we had a wonderful, lovely vacation and have returned home refreshed and relaxed. Slainte!

Not really worth it!

I'm not sure if I stayed at the same hotel as all the other reviewers, but I was not impressed by this hotel. The location is average - not exactly the most pictureque part of Dublin and the service was apalling. A lovely girl greeted us at reception and that's where it all ended. Suspicious stains on the pillows, slow room-service ("we're busy") and the restaurant was in complete chaos with no real order or professionalism. When checking out they even tried to charge us for an extra bottle of wine!I felt like I was spending the night in 'Fawlty Towers'

Nice

Lovely place to get away from work for the weekend. I flew to Dublin, took the bus into the centre and this hotel was only a 10-15 minute walk from there. A super base for the city. I got an upgrade upon arrival, which was a treat. The room was lovely with a fantastic view along the river. Facilities were good and room service excellent. The only thing that annoyed me (and it is only a very minor niggle) were the pillows on the bed - foam filled apparently and not very nice to get comfy on. But I didn't make a complaint about it.

Anyway, a good choice of hotel - and I only booked it after what I read on this site!

Excellent value for the money

from Roadrunner15
A very nice hotel. Rooms are quiet, good sized, and have all the amenities expected in a first class establishment. One of our travelers' reserved room was not available upon arrival and check-in. When we returned to the hotel later, the front desk upgraded the room to a spacious corner suite. A USER FRIENDLY hotel. It only a short walk from all the "good tourist stuff" in downtown Dublin. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting wonderful Dublin.

Good for weekend break

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is a very new hotel in the business district. The rooms are large, clean and very modern. Staff are friendly and helpful. The pool and jacuzzi are a big plus and very clean. It is about 15 mins walk from the main city centre, but the area seemed safe and well lit, but not as busy as say Temple bar at night,so may need a taxi late at night. Only problem we had was slow room service-but very polite and apologetic.Food is quite good-but the bar was a little sterile. Overall good for a weekend break.

Simpy fantastic hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Clarion for a weekend ( August 22-25) and I have to say it was one the best hotels that we stayed in, in a long time.Arrived at 12.30pm and our room was ready. The staff were very friendly. Took the lift to the room. Before we entered room, even the corridors were lush. The room was fantastic, large bright and modern, with a excellent marble bathroom with powertub and shower. Also tv with too many channels and also keyboard for the internet and a playstation controller. The minibar was stocked pretty good as well. After settling in we decided to avail of the cool leisure facilities...a gym (that would put my £50 a month gym here at home to shame) a lovely pool, sauna steamroom and jacuzzi. We then headed into in the centre of Dublin which was a 10 minute walk for a few drinks...Next morning we had a simply excellent breakfast, well attended by superb staff and the selection was excellent in a very posh setting. Again afterwards we had a dip in the pool (which wasn't busy.....we were the only ones in there!)Overall when you come to Dublin you must stay at the Clarion.Food 5/5Staff 5/5Room 4/5 (a bit too warm, couldn't figure out to work the air conditioning!!!)We'll def be back and soon!!

Lovely hotel

Lovely hotel, very helpful staff, fantastic asian cuisine in the bar. Only complaint was a little far out of town for three ladies to walk at night so cabs were a must. Superb gym and swimming pool (swimming hats must be worn, can be purchased from hotel).
