... Ferry terminal to pick us up in the car (brave woman, driving through busy Manhattan streets!) and then drove us out to Philadelphia to stay with her parents there for a couple of nights. Lovely large (and QUIET) house in a plush residential neighbourhood with deer and groundhogs in the back gardens, a world apart from the hectic New York streets. Early part of the evening was spent looking at Chris and Jessica's marriage celebration pictures - lots of fun laughing together ...
... around to see some of the monuments lit at night. We went to the Washington monument, Capitol Hill, some of the war memorials. We also went to the Iwogima memorial, it's not one of the sights but our bus driver is an ex marine and it's his favorite memorial plus he said its best seen at night. It was really amazing to see the sights and there are a lot of them that are best seen at night lot the way they are for best ...
... walking the 5 blocks there and back. Around 6 I took the subway to the old city -still very hot but breezy down by Penn's Landing and the Delaware river. Walked round Georgian Philly -elegant green squares and classical buildings but its too hot to stay out long..So back home by 9.30 to shower and eat and surf on my tablet as umm....people in this house have no tv ...only their lap ...
