Historical Traveler Reviews of Clarion Hotel San Jose
One of the Best Hotels Ever!
from PapaJupiter
I have traveled the globe, and stayed in a lot of different hotels. This place by far was one of the most enjoyable hotels I have ever been. The staff is professional and couteous. The rooms are well appointed and cozy. Beautiful landscaping and an excellent dining experience, "The Island Grill" has a wonderful chef preparing numerous Carribean style dishes. I will tell my friends about this place in San Jose.
A Converted Motel 6
from Soccerdad
Stayed at this hotel on my way out of San Jose. When I arrived, walked in the lobby and it was spacious & beautiful. My room wasn't ready so I wanted to watch the football game in the lounge - which they advertise with 4 plasma sports screens. But the lounge didn't open til 5pm. Not much good to have a sports bar if it's not open during the games.
When I finally got to my room, it was a shock. Tiny, like a Motel 6 - I could even hear my neighbors talking through the walls; And the noise from the street seems to echo. (These are not interior rooms, this is a motel).
Glad I didn't stay here my whole trip.
Big Mistake
from A TripAdvisor Member
I booked this hotel through Expedia as a "hotel of the month" thinking I was going to get a nice hotel for a good rate. The room I stayed in was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. The room was dirty, the Island Grill is a horrible resturant and the overall hotel itself is no better than an Econo-Lodge or any other discount hotel. Those locations are great - if that is what you're expecting to get.
Be advised, this is not a luxury location by any means.
Not worth it

I have stayed at basic hotels and always been satisfied but this hotel is not worth your time. We requested a 4:30 wake-up call and got one at 3:30 and 4:30. The bed was very squicky and you could feel the springs underneath. The television came in blurry but you could deal with it.
The 5a.m. shuttle had no driver, they did not bother telling us this and we had to find out from other travelers to go tell the person working to call us a cab. They had no clue when a cab was going to come and we ended up leaving at 5:20 instead of 5; thus leaving us to rush around the airport and deal with the lines. On top of this we were running late so we never got breakfast and the hotel doesn't offer anything.
Horrible experience and will never go back.

Room 134 was dated, depressing and poorly appointed. The room was musty, and the bed old. The TV badly located as relative to the bed and in a cabinet without any tray so that it might extend out beyond the cabinet walls, making it difficult at best to watch and hear. What was next to the bed was an old ground level heater/air conditioner that smelled when on, but the room was stifiling when off. The room was opposite an exterior staircase (there are many rooms like this one) which, because of it's construction seemed to amplify the steps of all people using it. These thundering sounds continued until well past 1AM. In addition, the honking sound of car alarms being set rang out echoing through the halls every 15 minutes or so throughout the night. At check out the staff was unconcerned, unapologetic and seemed quite content to collect their full fee for my 3 hours of sleep. When I asked for their corporate phone number they gave me "We Welcome Your Comments" to be returned to them, but, no phone number. In my opinion this establishment does not deserve a three star rating, it's rooms are equal to a one star motel. There are numerous lodgings in the area to choose from, I wouldn't pick this one again!
We will definitely stay here again.

The rooms were very clean, the staff was great, and our breakfast was plentiful. We were very happy with our stay, and will stay here again on a return visit.
GR8 Stay

We had a great stay at this hotel. The employees were all very helpful. The restaurant food was very good, we eat in the restaurant and ordered food to bring back to our room. The kids enjoyed the pool and the little putting green. Would definitely stay there again.
San Jose Clarion Airport Not Recommended
from qdtoomuch
I write this from the hotel. They've apparently lost my laundry, promised for this evening. They have no idea where it is. A room service steak dinner was delivered without utensils, but a telephone call corrected that (within 20 minutes). The hotel is motel like in construction, with all doors facing outwards, and a very loud air conditioning system. This is of the type mounted below the front window and blows upon the bed. It requires some hit or miss adjustment of the knob over a couple of hours to obtain a stable and comfortable temperature. (No accurate thermostat). In general then, a motel feeling to the room in every respect. The rooms seem rather old and show scratched and worn furnishings. This nonsmoking room has a strong odor of deodorizor. I booked a 4 day stay, but at checkin my key was misprogrammed for a single day stay. Internet access worked in my room, but not my traveling companions. Ice machines have beem removed from some marked locations and signs substituted directing one to other locations/floors. The restaurant is okay, but extremely slow if busy. My room service steak was also OK, but rather cold by the time the utensils arrived.
Not what I had hoped
from Texas_Phil
The website says Shuttle Service, but you have to call the hotel directly to have them come and pick you up...there are no direct dial phones from the airport to the hotel and I never say the Clarion listed anywhere in the airport on the list of hotels with shuttle service. The feature of the Hotel that saves this place is the bar/restaurant...very comfortable, good food, really good bar. Very friendly people in the bar area. Internet service is not good, bring your own cables. The rooms are clean but the linens are old and dont smell very clean and are not "crisp". This hotel looks more like a motel than anything else. The interior courtyard of the hotel is very nice. None of the windows from I can tell actually open.
Review of the Airport Inn International
from A TripAdvisor Member
Getting to the Airport Inn International hotel from the San Jose Airport wasn't as easy as I had presumed that it would be because the numbered streets in San Jose don't all extend all the way out to the airport, but once I arrived, I was delighted with this very modern, up to date, hotel.
