... to the car (via Ralphs to get George a thank you card and some wine) and drove up the road to his house. His housemate answered the door and a very big (weimaraner) dog came bounding out! We sat and chatted for a few hours - a lot about the California drought and how it never rains (he worked for a water company), which was pretty funny considering the weather we got the next few days! The boys went to bed and jack and I slept on the sofas. Bed at ~midnight.

... and shiny lights in Vegas... Which he says is pretty. The most startling and sad thing we found was that the majority of people we met in the service industry were paid such poor base wages and relied on tips to get by. This meant a lot of them would not have the opportunity to travel. Most people only had 2 weeks annual leave per year. ... that was built for the Panama-Pacific art exposition in 1915 , it is an imposing structure the can be noticed from miles around. We then made or way through the Presidio , Sea Cliff and stopped for lunch at a Polish deli called Seakor European Deli, we ordered a roll with meat and salad and the meat was the larger portion. ... we headed out for more live music which, was located around a 5 minute walk from Cafe West. This was the opening night of a social jazz club called Birdland. This idea is really clever; members pay a years fee which includes a BBQ and free live jazz. The owner also makes birdhouses on the side and members also get one when they sign up. I saw some of the birdhouses inside; they lined shelves and were made from recycled materials. So cool...this made me fall in love with Oakland even ...
